You make several good points. I think the reason is the Nebraska administration wants to play as many games as possible against anyone they can while they can fearing the season could be shut down at any time.Do you wanna play a OC game if your Nebraska? I get they wanna have as many games on the schedule as possible and this is likely a easy W but are the risks worth it? By playing basically a meaningless game you risk injury, you risk a possible COVID situation with UTC which would cost you even more B1G games. Plus in a season where programs are losing money like crazy why fork out $250K for UTC? It's not like Huskers are going to be a Championship contender.
No. It’s a combination or reasons. Certain universities put so much pressure on the Big 10 they had no choice but to play. OSU realized that there was going to a national champion and they weren’t going to get to compete. Fields realized he couldn’t win the Heisman and started being vocal. The entire Big 10 sports structure was collapsing because they realized they were not going to get TV money and they couldn’t support other sports. Finally, some big donors to the universities put pressure on the university presidents to change their minds. The only reason the Big10 joined the season was to wreck it, they have zero intentions on finishing the season with their crazy restrictions and contacting tracing
