NCAA puts UTC athletic department on probation | Chattanooga Times Free Press

UTC was put on 2 years probation. They self imposed 1 lost scholarship, and a 17 week No Recruiting period for Men's Basketball.

While this investigation was clearly no where near as high profile they sound eerily similiar. This is from the NCAA report...

“institution failed to monitor coaches’ communications” with recruits and that Head Coach Shulman both “did not promote an atmosphere of compliance” within his program and “at times, he did not protect the integrity of the investigation.”

Sounds like Shulman was less than forthcoming like Pearl. It is being widely speculated that the Vols can expect similar punishment if no further findings come to light.

Wow. I would jump for joy if that were the case. I'm preparing for the worst, and will support CBP and the team no matter what gets handed down.

I didn't take it off, must have been the mods :realmad:

Maybe this one will be "ok" for them, though I've seen some that were just as "not ok" as the one I had

You would have to think there would be a lawsuit if we get hammered while another Div. 1 school that did the same thing didn't. I don't care how big the program is, the NCAA has to stay consistent. Then people will say, "Well Pearl lied." Well, the NCAA basically implied that UTC's coach was lying, and he lied and didn't come out and say he did. We got a year of recruiting ban compared to their 17 weeks, and our coaches pay got docked heavily while their's did not. Pearl said the contact was the only thing they found wrong with our program out of all the areas they investigated so if we get hammered, then I would be surprised.

I hope this is the case, but I'm not holding my breath. Being a fan of Tennessee athletics over the last few years has taught me to expect the unexpected...AT ALL TIMES. But here's hoping. :crossfingers:

It was Hamilton who put the hammer down on Pearl, not the NCAA.

That's right. We'll sue the NCAA for "being mean."

I don't think there are as many similarities between the two cases as many would like to believe...Unfortunately.

There was nothing about the UTC coach lying to the NCAA. There are no unethical conduct charges against him. I'd say that might make a substantial difference in the way the NCAA looks at UTK issues.

You're starting to sound like a USC fan
