I'm trying to think when we hauled our best ever recruiting class. It had to be sometime in the 90s...the recent one we had that was so highly ranked ended up flopping for the most part. I think we have a shot to have one of the best ever this year. That's saying a lot considering the talent we stockpiled in the 90s.

The best one I remember was Manning's. 1994 I think, highly ranked, nearly everyone qualified, and really kicked off a dominant era. The non-redshirts were gone though by the time they won the NC.

My vote goes to the 1997 class. It included Cosey Coleman, Deon Grant, Travis Stephens, Travis Henry, Jamal Lewis, Dominique Stephenson, Andre Lott, Will Bartholomew, Cedric Wilson, David Martin, Fred Weary, and Eric Parker among others. Of course my all time favorite was Bobby "sure hands" Graham.

The fact that we brought in Stephens, Henry, and Jamal in one recruiting class and none of them ended up transferring and they all had (at least) one successful season at UT is remarkable...

Also, how did our RB rotation go in 1999? Was it equally split between Jamal and T. Henry? I don't remember... I know that Henry was the dominant back in 2000 and then Stephens in 2001, but can't remember 99.

Depends on whether you're judging based on rankings only or results. If based on rankings I would argue 1994. If based on performance I would say an argument for the 1997 class w/ the GA trio (Jamal, Cosey and Deon Grant) would be a good one. The '94 class may not have won a championship but they only lost 2 games (Memphis & Nebraska) outside of our annual beating by Spurrier from soph to senior seasons.

I don't remember everyone in the '94 class but I know it was considered to be one of the strongest in a long time and one of the best ever at UT. The class had Peyton Manning among many other top 100 players. Marcus Nash wasn't even the highest rated WR we had from that class (the other guy had terrific potential but never panned out -- I forgot his name). We killed it that year.

99 was a split between Lewis and Henry. Stephens took a redshirt and our number 3 was Onterrio Smith.

I'm pretty sure he was a true freshman that year not a redshirt. I remember watching him that year thinking that Travis Stephens would never see the field again with as well as Smith played that season off the bench.

Funny story, I lived in Gibbs in 99 and remember the maintanence men grumbling as they went up the elevator one evening stating that his girlfriend had clogged the sewer pipes by trying to flush their baby's (entire) diaper down the toilet. Needless to say he wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed.

The 1995 class with Peerless, Al, Copeland, was pretty good. Wilson was already top tier prospect, but Copeland was a qb, while Peerless flew under the radar though if I remember he was a 4 star at the time.

The next year, I think we had more 5 stars off the top of my head, with Martin, Raynoch and Goodrich all being 5 star prospects, per rivals at the time of their signings. I think there were quite a bit more as well. Plus we were loaded with transfers the following year with D. Walker.

Of course, Jamal's class was

There was also Dominque Stevenson who was recruited as a rb but since we had all of those other guys he was switched to LB.
