The John R. Wooden Award Women's Ballot was announced Thursday by The Los Angeles Athletic Club President Steve Hathaway, and UT junior Meighan Simmons is among the 15 players on that prestigious list.

It's great to see Meighan on this list. She's been a tremendous player and leader for the LVs during this season which has been full of adversities for her team. I think she is probably one of the most talented players on the ballot, if not the most talented, considering that she doesn’t have a height and/or body-size advantage like some of the others (i.e. the 6-8 Griner). Although I think she would have had a better shot at this award if she had performed better in the SEC conference game against the Lady Aggies and Bone had not be given the “star treatment”.

I don’t know how many times I have heard the announcers this season say “How did she do that?!” when Meighan scored for her team. She demonstrates how the sport of women’s basketball can be so graceful and beautiful.

Good luck to Meighan! I hope she wins it.
