This article was posted a week ago, but I cut out the interesting stats:

How bad is it?

Consider that Tennessee is only .04 yards from giving up the most average yards on punt returns of any team in the nation. The Vols' rank is 116 out of 117.

As one fan points out, the Vols are now No. 100 or worse in seven statistical categories among Division I schools. Here's how they rank:

Punt return yardage defense: 116

Fourth down conversions: 112

Scoring offense: 108

Net punting: 105

Passing efficiency: 104

Punt returns: 102

Rushing offense: 101

Total offense: 98

Turnovers lost: 93

Turnover margin: 91

Kickoff returns: 91

Fumbles lost: 86

Passing offense: 82

Passes had intercepted: 73

Kickoff return defense: 59

Third down conversions: 45

With that in mind, you have to wonder what the team's chances are even of beating Vanderbilt (4-6) and Kentucky (3-6).

If you start to compare the teams backwards, we are kicking butt!!

Like I said before, this is the worst coached team in the 25 years I have followed a football team. Some of my Bears teams were pretty bad but this definitely takes the cake.

This has been painful to watch. There is no other explanation other than coaching.

This is the first Vol offense that I have ever seen that looks like they don't even practice. Memphis had given up 500 yards in their last three games. UT has moved from the sublime to the ridiculous.

I was having hopes that a new OC could come in and take care of business, though I am hopeful that is still the case, after yesterday it is apparent this team will have a lot of demons next year. The new hire better come ready to work.

I would voice my honest opinion on what I think UT needs, but then the mods would kick me off this board..... :shades:

Lets just start by saying they need a swift kick in the rear and an OC that is willing to work 20 hours a day for a year.

They also need a disciplinarian over there who will not put up with crap off the field, on the field, or in practice. It is apparent that the inmates are running the asylum over there, and if Fulmer wants to stick around he needs to hire an OC outside of the family and hire some position coaches that will teach and demand the most out of their players. The problems that UT has been experiencing this year have been around for a while, they just have become terminal this year.

The burning question in relation to the other issues is will Fulmer allow anyone to push the players buttons?

The sociological balance of a team of 18-22 year olds requires a firmer hand than Fulmer is willing to use. Outside coaches could be better models for leadership.

That's the million dollar question. Will Fulmer relinquish some control and delegate responsibilities. Will he allow someone to run an offense he is not that familiar with? Will he allow someone to run the discipline on the team? My inkling is no. I really question the guy's ability to assess what is wrong with the team first of all, and I question his willingness to do what is necessary to fix it.

I fear that you are correct. He may want to fix it, but I don't know if he has the ability. With the parody in CFB he will not be able to recruit himself out of this mess.

CPF is a paradox. He is confident enough to close practice and relinquish any sense of accountability, yet he is scared to death to hire competent coaches that may outshine him. That is a huge character flaw.

That goes back to what he did to Majors and he doesn't want that happening to him. I have tried not to be calling for his head all the time, hoping that he would make the proper decisions to right the ship, but I really think his time of success at UT is at an end. If you really take it objectively, no SEC championships since 98 is not getting it done. And next year will be a rebuilding year.

All of the talent that has come through this program...Manning, Al Wilson, Jamal Lewis (these guys are all-Pro players!), Travis Henry, Stallworth, Washington, Haynesworth, Little, Price, Henderson, Witten, the list goes on and on, and all we have to show for it are what, 2 SEC championships? He did not exactly inherit a terrible program either.
