Is it just me or does it seem like UT have a very weak and borning student section compared to other schools?

The last few years, yes. I have been a student of sorts continuously for the last 6 or 7 years, and I have seen the student section go down hill dramatically. It started with Orange Nation.

No offense, but I must say I agree. Compared to other SEC schools our student section is weak. If you look at AUburn and Bama's student sections, they are always jumping up and down and raising hell. Every student has a shaker in there hand and is waving it madly. Every time I see our student section on TV, I think to myself, come on guys thats kinda weak......GET LOUD!!!!! Maybe im wrong, it just looks that way on TV.

It sounds weak because only 1/3 of it makes any noise during the game. It all comes from the Rocky Top Rowdies, the standing section directly behind the basket.

Well, next year i will be a freshman and i'll make damn sure they are up the whole time!!!

Good luck with that...I'll be a senior this year and it has been that way for my first 3 years, unless we were playing UK or UF.

Well, looks like your gonna have to help me then! I'm ready to get UT back to what it used to be. There is one thing I can not stand about Tennessee fans and that is the fact that they are not satisfied if UT does not go undefeated every year.

Just wondering, but what happened with Orange Nation that affected student attendance?

The reason students stopped going to every game is because we weren't winning. The price of season tickets are less than a hard night out on the town.

I agree. While most students were pissed about have to pay for football tickets for the first time, most of them still did it. The pathetic product we put on the field last year was the #1 reason for declined attendance.

Last year, somebody created a Facebook group telling people to wear black to the '08 Orange & White game in protest of paying for tickets. While nearly 1,000 students joined the group, only about 5 of them actually followed through and wore black to the game.

Well, I can tell you that as soon as the Orange Nation got the good block seating it completely ruined the football student section. Half of the fun and rowdiness comes from the seats in front and moves throughout the stadium and when students had a legit shot at getting 4 tickets together for say the Florida, Bama, or Georgia game down low they were excited as hell to be sitting there and would get rowdy. Plus, no remotely cool people were in the Orange Nation because it was basically the dork squad. Also, they have cracked down on sneaking booze into games which is totally gay.

Uh what? Me or my dad have never been checked for anything at all, even wearing shorts with like 15 different pockets in the past 5 years, and I haven't noticed a decrease in all of the mini liquor bottles left in the bathroom.

IIRC, the students used to be placed on the corners of the court (endzone)... that has gotten better, but the fact that Dickey sold his soul to get the arena built means that the blue hairs (and maybe their children?) will be in the primo seats along the side for years to come...

Dickey, as big of an imbecile as he was, had nothing to do with commitments to Arena Fund Donors that created the current seating situation.

I wonder how far out in years the commitment to the original donors goes? I don't know..

to orig poster, no it is not just you. our student section is very weak compared to other schools, especially considering how successful we have been in hoops lately. i was at the UT/Temple game last Dec in philly, and those students were absolutely insane. and temple sucks ass now

You have to be talking about football only. I'm not comparing them to the Cameron Crazies, but the student section now is much better in TBA than it used to be.
