VALUE OF 2

-gets us to a bowl game
-gets us more exposure to recruits
-gets us extra practices and maybe get some of these stud recruits on campus earlier
-gets us alot of positives as we rise back to the top.


NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS "2" IS ALL WE NEED TO HAPPEN TO HAVE WHAT WE CAN CALL A SUCCESSFUL YEAR AND ADD A FEW MORE BRICKS TO THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA WE ARE BUILDING.

GO VOLS.......LET'S GET BOWLING! :rock:

I strongly believe we'll get two, particularly Vandy and Kentucky. Vandy, because CBJ would go all out to ensure we beat them in his first year, and Kentucky because they suck.

I also think Auburn and Mizzou aren't as good as their records may indicate. We'll take at least one of those games, too.

I agree with the extra practice time, but how would going to lower tiered bowl impress recruits?

I'm not trying to be insulting to your reasoning but if these recruits that UT is going after are also being recruited by the top teams I don't see how the Weedeater or Liberty Bowl can stack up to a New Year's Day or BCS Bowl.

Winning the USC game was huge for our bowl chances.

If we were 3-5 right now, it would be a very, very tough hill to climb.

Vandy is very winnable, and UK should be a gimme at this point. They're turrrrible.

Simple, we're not supposed to be there. Given our schedule this year, the new staff/schemes and the personnel we have to put on the field a bowl would be a major accomplishment.....the folks we're after know this and seeing it happen will only solidify the direction the program is headed......just my .02

Gives the University more money because of butt in the seats, another televised game, more memoribilia being sold.

Think of it the other way around. If we don't make a bowl, if we were to go 5-7, then it would be harder to sell to recruits that we are improving, that this staff is going to succeed. Instead, it may look like 7 losses has become the norm for this program and this staff isn't really changing it. Also, if you go 5-7, it means you lost to a team with significantly less talent, which makes the coaching staff an even harder sell.

NCAA bowl records:


Alabama has appeared in 60 bowl games.

Texas has appeared in 51 bowl games.

U.T., USC, & Nebraska all are tied with 49 bowl game appearances.

UGA has 48 bowl game appearances.


We are currently tied for 3rd place. Should we not go to a bowl game, and USC & Nebraska go to one, we would fall to 5th place and we would be tied for 5th with UGA.

We need those two wins!!!!!

If you are telling recruits that you realize that we are not good right now, but we are heading in the right direction, then you don't even make a bowl game, some of those recruits may question if you really are headed in the right direction.....

any bowl will do right now..even the low tier bowls the SEC is in play in late December..its just about showing recruits hey ...we didnt make a bowl the last few years, but this year we laid a foundation of some important bricks...we played at #1bama at #2oregon and faced 4 other teams that were once ranked in the top 15, but yet our first years as a staff...our first year with the new offense and new Defense we playing in a bowl. Exciting time to be a vol fan people Florida is not making progress like they should under Mushcamp, Georgia is starting to fall, South Carolina is at the end of the road, Mizzou(not sure about them yet), Vandy...Frankling will be gone, and Kentucky.its Kentucky. The east is coming back to Knoxville....frustrating part is then we need to conquor the west!

I guess if you leave it at that, it's ok. The best case scenario would be the MCB or Liberty Bowls because they would almost be guaranteed sell-outs.

With our schedule this year our bowl game will definitely be against one of our weaker opponents of the year.

Hopefully we just lay the wood to somebody.

ESPN has us projected to play Marshall in the Liberty Bowl in Memphis.
