I can definitely see a day sooner than later that Vandy drops their football team but keeps their baseball and basketball programs going in the SEC. I don’t think anyone in the SEC would even notice if they got out of the football buisness. They probaly just lose money at this point in football with little fan support, high school level football facilities and the worst stadium in the SEC.

Zero chance in hell. They want their cut of the football revenue.

I mean, it would be unprecedented for an SEC team to straight up just drop football. Then would the SEC even let their other sports continue as associate members?

Vanderbilt doesn't have to care about football to keep it going. It's not hurting anything for them to suck in football just like it doesn't hurt Yale or Harvard. The administration doesn't have to care about football success in the SEC and they don't.

They're Vanderbilt. The fanbase/donors aren't going to "rise up" and demand changes unless the school drops out of the US News Top 25....... not the CFP Top 25.

For what reason?

The SEC would not allow that to happen.

Personally, I think it might be fun for all of "high academic" schools that play P5 football to form their own conference. VU, Northwestern, Syracuse, Stanford, etc. I understand that the travel may make it unfeasible, but it would be fun. Might be a struggle to call it P5 after a while though.

They have a worse admin (athletics wise) than any university in the country.

Think about the most prolific FBS University in terms of Academics.............they win the NCAA Directors Cup almost every year.............Stanford.
You can have a solid athletic department AND top notch academics. You just have to want it. Vandy doesn't care.

Is Vandy that childhood friend you still keep in touch with, but if you met today you wouldn't be friends?

If the SEC was formed today, would Vandy be in it?
Great question. Probably not on the question of being in the SEC.

Definitely still be friends with him. Always fun to rub success in the face of those who don't have any. Wow, that was harsh on my part. But true:oops:

Football conferences are so last century anyway but would Vandy start a football program today? No.

The CTE researchers in the med school and the Law School faculty would probably recommend against it.

Vandy, Tulane, Rice, Northwestern, Wake Forest, Virginia, Duke, and Georgia Tech would probably have their own conference.

Hell.....sounds like a good idea.

I don't see it. That would be a sh-t ton of money they'd be throwing away given the SEC's TV deal and bowl revenue sharing models

No, but let's be fair...both the Mississippi schools probably wouldn't be either if the SEC was formed today.

$300mil stadium renovation. Definitely not losing money. They're getting that SEC TV money like everyone else.

The football program (and other programs) technically owes the university millions of dollars. They have not been paying the university for all the athletic scholarships. Since they are private we will never know the full amount but the university is supporting the sports programs. Notice I didn’t use the term “athletic department” because they don’t have one.
