Rams offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer is interviewing today for the Vanderbilt head coaching job, per league sources.

Would be an interesting hire. Before Franklin, there's no way they could have gotten a guy like this to even interview.

Been an OC in STL for 2 years. 23rd and 30th ranked offenses the last 2 years

To be fair, his QB was Kellen Clemens this season.
I'm not scared of him as a college HC at all, you just can't deny that he's a big-name-guy in the coaching world. No way Vanderbilt would have gotten an interview with him three years ago.
With the way their recruiting class has been picked apart, I would have thought they'd go more after a guy that has college experience.

Schottenheimer kind of makes sense. He gets a pay raise and Vanderbilt gets something of a name. And, he can always go back to being a pro assistant when it doesn't work out.

It would be sweet if Florida would hire him, however.

Absolutely. In years past candidates like this would have laughed at Vandy. Not sure about him as a college HC though

Whoever they hire will have fun closing out this recruiting cycle while trying to hire a competent staff.

He isn't really a big name; his daddy is the big name. He's been riding those coattails for years.

This is from the coaching search ticker on coachingsearch.com

According to CBS' Bruce Feldman, Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton and Stanford defensive coordinator Derek Mason are expected to interview for the Vanderbilt head coaching job on Thursday.

Derek mason looking for a pay raise? I just don't see someone leaving Stanford, even as a coordinator, for Vandy.

Any college coaching experience? You'd think they'll need an expert recruiter for future success (recruiting to Vandy), but more immediately, to save a tanked class this year!

I don't think WD is worried about that honestly. He's looking for a "splash hire" in the 11th hour.

Son of a famous coach who has shown just mediocre success in his own right.

Weren't we twice burned by that hiring philosophy?

They actually think they can get Gundy from Ok St. or both DC Mason from Stanford AND Colt's OC Pep Hamilton.

They claim to be more intelligent than others and yet they imagine their football program the same way someone imagines winning the lottery. Unrealistic and never going to happen. I guess "intelligent people" are some of the least logical people in existence. Vanderbilt fans are delusional. I'm convinced they believe Vanderbilt is a better job than Tennessee.

Gundy is not leaving Boone Pickens for Vandy.

You're not going to get an NFL OC to work under Stanford's DC and you're not going to get Stanford's DC to leave for the same job at a worse program.

Vanderbilt fans are really stupid. They're obviously not getting Gundy and I doubt they even get Hamilton from the Colts or Mason from Stanford let alone both.

Stop me if you've heard this before. On the topic of him interviewing, this was thrown out there on VandyMania

"I seriously take interviews like this as smoke screens and courtesy."

Next they will post cryptic "Soon" messages, I guess.

Wasn't Dooley hired on the 16th? He had to scramble to save and close our 2010 class. The longer this takes, the more of a dumpster fire it becomes. I can't see anyone wanting to walk into a situation where your first recruiting cycle ends up with Div 1 rejects and leftovers.

They still have a couple of coaches recruiting I guess. I read a thread on one of their boards about how theu are close to flipping a 2* kid from App St.

Not gonna happen. Word is the kid likes pepper steak. App St. makes a mean pepper steak. Too much for Vandy to overcome.
