Vanderbilt has a fine team and have played so far as one of the top teams in the country. However - and this is not in any way to belittle or diminish what the Commodores have done - rankings in baseball are completely ridiculous. Pre-season baseball rankings are even moreso.

The 8 that make it to Omaha in June are the teams that played the best - on the field - for 2007. If Vandy keeps playing well, they've got a chance to get to The 'Blatt.

Pedro Alvarez may well be the best player in the SEC.
