Maybe several years ago they might have considered themselves a basketball school, but not in the past decade or so. If they are anything, they are a baseball school, and I'd consider them more of a football school than basketball school if I had to choose one. Their crappy history aside, I can say if they had to choose they'd much rather be successful in football than basketball; at least according to the Vandy fans I know.

Id like to point out the fact that Vandy does not have a womens softball team. Only university in the Sec without one.

They are the only school in the nation to have mbb, wbb, baseball in NCAA tourneys and football in a bowl game 2 years in a row.
As someone who loves UT and is indifferent to lil brother, I'm impressed.
That streak isn't going to make it to 3 because of MBB though.
