Vandy hit with fine for storming court

I don't mind it in truly big games. But there needs to be precautions put in place before hand, before the game ever starts. I remember IU beating UK in 2012, and how UK players nearly got ran over by the storming.

Unfortunately it will not be addressed until something terrible happens. I hope not though.

This rule was probably written with regard to football fields more than it was basketball courts but both apply. Thousands of people storming a football field really tears the hell out of it. Big deal though. 100 grand is pocket change to Vandy.

It's an SEC policy, not an NCAA rule.

Hence the "SEC/NCAA/some fans" in my 1st post. I posted NCAA due to some articles pointing out that they didn't like it.

I know the SEC fined Ole Miss $50,000 in 2014 for rushing the field after beating Bama

SEC fines Ole Miss, Kentucky after fans rush field

But they got the fans to help pay for it.

Ole Miss Rebels fans raise money to pay for damages, fines from upset of Alabama Crimson Tide

I can see about messing the field up though. I know in 1998 when we rushed the field some people was hurt.

I find it hilarious that they got fined 100K and that they rushed the court after beating Ky. Sure, Ky is the standard in hoops in the SEC and it usually makes a team's year if they can beat them. However, Ky is not all that this year and lost to the likes of lowly Auburn (who also stormed the court) and UT (who didn't storm the court).

The $100,000 fine was because it was a second violation since the men's basketball game against Florida in 2007.

I think the rule is silly, although I understand its purpose. But I'm in the camp who finds it more absurd that Vandy stormed the court after beating this year's Kentucky squad.

It's probably okay as long as there is enough law enforcement to protect the opponents and there are a lot of cameras on them along with very harsh penalties for anybody that assaults an opposing player or coach or other official. You really need enough LE to form a safe exit corridor for the other team.

Fine Vandy 100x what you fine any other SEC school for the same thing. If they complain, say its because of their unique bench positions.

Unless the NCAA imposes the ban - conf. should stay out of it -- I think the SEC is the only conf that fines schools. The FB field at Neyland cant take a field storm though - it looks bad enough as it is.

man 100k for all 5 of their fans storming the court, that's a pretty rough ratio. I guess family was there too.

Vandy has a WEIRD court. You can fall off it. Only team in the nation to put the benches under the opposite baskets.

Now Cal sends his team to the locker room before its over. Other than Matt Walsh getting cold cocked by a UGA student, one rarely gets hurt in these situations. Cal looks retarded when he does this, by not having his guys shake hands.
