So I have been searching for a new job that gets me closer to home and I keep seeing this posting. Anybody interested in working for James Franklin.

Assistant Coach - Strength & Conditioning-1306861


Description

Basic Function


Assists Head Strength and Conditioning Coach in all phases of the strength and conditioning program. Responsible for providing assistance in the operation of the Weight Rooms and implementation of individualized conditioning, strength and flexibility programs for student-athletes in all intercollegiate sports programs.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Assists with scheduling and supervising the use of the Weight Rooms by individual student-athletes and teams.

2. Assists with the maintenance of Weight Room equipment, to include equipment cleaning and repair.

3. Designs and supervises total conditioning programs for assigned sports during preseason, in-season and off-season periods, in conjunction with the designated coach from each sport. Develops testing programs to determine the effectiveness of conditioning regimes.

4. Administers warm-up and flexibility programs for sports teams, as requested.

5. Administers tests to determine the fitness level of all student-athletes for the assigned sports. Maintains accurate records on their progress.

6. Advises and counsels student-athletes regarding proper nutrition.

7. Ensures compliance with Weight Room rules.

8. Assists in on-site recruiting activities related to the Weight Rooms and other Departmental facilities.

9. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned by the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach.

10. Comply with NCAA and SEC rules and regulations.


Basic Qualifications

Job requires Bachelor's and 2 years of experience or the equivalent.

For some reason I don't think this is the football s&c coach. But maybe...

I don't think I intended it to be funny. I thought it was more interesting that an SEC school uses a job board to hire assistant coaches instead of using personal contacts.

A lot of schools post jobs like that. Probably a requirement related to the hiring process.

If I were remotely qualified and it was a step up I'd apply for it.

In fact I have an open application with Vandy right now.

I could be wrong, but Vandy is a private institution and is not required to post job openings publically.

If there is any grant money supporting that position or department, I'm pretty sure they are required to post. Most universities post all of their job openings from janiter to president to avoid any future criticism.

Many employers have corporate policies that require all jobs to be posted publicly before they can be filled. Happens all the time.

I could be wrong, but Vandy is a private institution and is not required to post job openings publically.

Vandy's legal department is probably smart enough to influence hiring policies. I work at a private corporation that requires all positions to be posted before filled. It's an internal mandate, not a state/federal one.
