VCU to A10

VCU is giving up the huge advantage of playing the CAA Tournament in Richmond every year. The A-10 will increase their at-large chances by a little bit, but it will have to come against greater competition. In the CAA, even in a medicore year, they always knew the auto-bid competition would be in their backyard. That's the one big negative for them with this move.

If Shaka Smart leaves, VCU could go from being a hot spot for young coaches to being a mediocre-to-bad A-10 program in short order.

I'm curious about what happens to the Big East basketball schools. There were rumors of a split long before the football conference got decimated. If the seemingly inevitable split does happen, I wonder if some of the premium A-10 schools will get an invite to join the other basketball schools.

Love what the A10 is doing with adding mid major powers Butler and VCU. Both schools are giving up easier schedules and almost automatic tourny bids for more money, more powerful conference and better recruiting chances. I like it all around!

The A-10 is now the best non-BCS basketball conference and in my opinion better than the Pac-12 for that matter.

Dayton, Xavier, Butler, VCU, St. Louis, UMass all solid programs on top of Richmond, George Washington from year to year

Great move by VCU. I wouldn't consider the A10 as a power conference but they'd whip half of the power conference teams.

Temple is the only loss out of the conference. I used to love watching John Chaney's Temple ball clubs come into Dayton. Talk about a mastered 2-3 Zone.

The A-10 is better than the Pac-12 even without VCU and Butler.

That has certainly been the case the last couple of seasons. Pac-12 needs to get its act together.

UCLA obviously got a couple of very talented guys, and Arizona has put together a nice couple of years recruiting. But the drop-off after that is crazy.

The CAA is in trouble. ODU is now ready to agree to move to C-USA. Georgia State also has already left and there are reports that George Mason and James Madison are looking around. I'm happy for my Monarchs, but I hate losing all these great in state rivalries.
