Just thought I would point out, that going to school last year with Verdell Jones III, I learned a lot about how College Basketball recruiting worked. "V" was an above average high school player in the state of Illinois, that wouldn't make the roster of most Chicago area schools, but at Central he was a star. And he brought Tubby Smith, Bruce Pearl, and Tom Crean to a 1,200 seat stadium. Now, he would be wearing the Orange and White, with the Orange striped warmups, but he and Daniel West were offered the same scholarship, and because Verdell wasn't ready to sign early enough the Scholarship went to D West.

Not saying it was a bad move by Bruce Pearl because I have never seen D West play in College yet, but Verdell is dominating as a True Freshman at Indiana, and outside coaches are telling him that he might be going pro after 2 years, and they he is a potential guy. My Question is, now that West is hurt, and V is a rising star, Should Bruce have given the Scholarship to Verdell?

Verdell Jones should enjoy his one season in the sun at IU. Once Maurice Creek, and other comparable talents, show up, he'll get very accustomed to sitting on the bench.

The bolded part seems to back up Hat on this.

I would love to have a guy named Verdell on my team even if he never played.

The only reason he wouldn't have played was because he didn't have a shot until his senior season....and then shot about 59% from 3 land. He also was 6'4 165 last November, and now weighs 180...and that is muscle. He showed improvement in everything in 1 year, and now watching him in college he has improved his shot blocking, and physicality which lacked last year.

I'm not saying he is Derrick Rose, or even Chris Lofton, but the kid has potential. Just saying I think Bruce could have and should have developed this kid into an NBA Star. (He is also related to Shaun Livingston, just an fyi)

Verdell is far from being a dominate player. I have already seen him play this year and I was very unimpressed. His ball handling skills were comparable to JP Prince.

uhm? I have seen him play against Derrick Rose in high school, and his ball handeling skills were better than his when V was a Junior. You must not be talking about the same Verdell Jones? I guess? He is amazing with the ball in his hands, but an average shooters, and has zero strength.

Thats cool I respect your opinion. Maybe you just saw him on a bad night. Because personally I thought Derrick Rose was garbage when all he did was run around the 3 point arc not taking wide open shots against a mediocre at best team. He let Flowers do all the work for him, I came away un-impressed....That impression changed when he hit The FedEx Arena court.

Could have been a bad night who knows. I was with a very respected AAU coach the nite I saw him play and he also thought the same thing. He thought he was almost overrated as a 3 star. You never know what can happen with kids at the next level so things could definitely change for him. One thing for sure is he has a great coach that if he listens well he will learn alot from.

Can I ask what game you saw him at? Was it a Ft. Sooy game? or a Central Game?

I'm starting to doubt you and your stance on V. The kids can hoop, and has done better in College than he did in High School....that tells you something.

You can doubt me all you want I could really care less, but someone who knows alot more than me about basketball talent said he was not very impressive. I also watched him at IU's first game and I thought he looked much better, but he is not UT material. He would never fit into Pearl's system.

hahah this is pretty funny.. like your actually breaking some kind of rules by saying what game you were at.. no one cares what aau coach you were with because no one knows any AAU coaches.. can't believe your dodging this question, that may be why he doesn't believe you b/c quite frankly i don't either

He was obviously UT Material if Bruce Pearl visited m High School, and then another game during last season....and he Offered a Scholarship. That seems like Bruce P. Knows something about Verdell and his potential. It was just a whoever accepts first gets the ticket, and Verdell wasn't letting it distract his state championship run.
