Posted this in the broader spring visitors thread from 247 article about Dylan Stewart, who is on the schedule for Memorial Day weekend:
"Tennessee coach Josh Heupel instituted a Memorial Day recruiting weekend last year, and the Vols viewed it as a major success and will do it again this year. Stewart will be on campus in late May for it, and that will be a huge chance for the Vols to become heavily involved in his recruitment. Getting a visit is nice, but the Vols are not mentioned in the same way as SEC competitors Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina when it comes to recruiting buzz with Stewart. However, the visit could change a lot."
One can assume that this year's event will be HUGE, based on 1) the success of this weekend last year, both in terms of uncommitted prospects commitments who visited and ended up signing with us AND the sheer number of bigtime players who visited, regardless of the fact we didn't land them all, 2) our current recruiting momentum, 3) how deep our board is at every position, and 4) how successful we've been at getting 2024s to campus, starting with last summer, into the 11-2 season, and throughout 2023.
Well, it turns out that we might have gotten a little bit of luck, as "The top 50 high school football athletes that will be part of the 2024 college recruiting class have been invited to Nashville to participate in the On3 NIL Elite Series."
There are only ~30 prospects confirmed, and yet Vol targets who will be there, along with the aforementioned Stewart, already include:
Edge Colin Simmons
S KJ Bolden
WR Mike Matthews (visiting April 3)
LB Sammy Brown (visiting April 9)
WR Ryan Wingo
RB Jerrick Gibson (OV June 16)
RB Kameron Davis
TE Jaden Reddell (visiting April 1)
Edge Jordan Ross (visiting April 15, OV June 23)
CB Kaleb Beasley (VOL COMMIT)
LB Edwin Spillman (visiting April 15, OV June 16)
ATH Boo Carter (visiting April 1)
QB Jake Merklinger (VOL COMMIT as of 3/30)
Could mean nothing. But it absolutely could allow some massive targets to spend the weekend in Knoxville for a major, major recruiting event before making the short drive to Nashville for the On3 event and make the weekend a blockbuster.
