Interesting article....regardless, the kid throws fast. 102.4 or 105.5 is just plain fast.

About all you can say definitively is that Chapman is clearly the hardest thrower since modern radar technology came into the game. There's just no way to know between him and Ryan and Feller and Vida Blue. It sure seems to me like Chapman throws a little harder than Ryan, but that's just watching on TV so it's meaningless.

If I had to guess, I'd guess that the hardest ever was that guy who never made the majors, Steve Dalkowski, simply because he had no control at all and you have to figure that an equivalent fastball has got to be fractionally slower if it's being controlled well. But there's no way to ever know.

I played for a guy who played in the bigs for 15+ seasons. Said that Ryan was intimidating as hell. But said that he never faced anyone that threw harder than J.R. Richard. Said you never saw the ball, but you sure as hell heard it.
