Hey VN! I'm need to edit a 30 minute highlight tape of a HS LB to eight minutes and cut and blend it all. I'm a novice vid-editor so I'm looking for the easiest and cheapest way to make a QUALITY film. I'd like to be able to use some graphics to highlight him or darken everyone else in certain scenarios, possible arrows to show path to the ball and vision and such. I'm an novice like I said so any tips or advice is appreciated.(Ill share his film when finished. He's a top 50 prospect in TN)

well I don't really know anything about the cheaper versions, but I know I prefer Adobe Premiere, but it's very expensive if you purchase the software. However, they make a cheaper Premier "Express" version. In fact a lot of new computers actually come with it already installed. I know the full version will easily allow you to do any of the blending and fancy cuts and wipes you want, as well as adding graphics (although for major graphics, you'd also need "After Effects".

also, i'm not recommending you do this, in fact I'm going on record as saying I don't recommend it, but you can find just about any software you want on torrents...

Thanks man.do you think I would be able to do this on my own with the afore-mentioned program? I'm not an idiot but I've also never done any editing. I don't want music or any of that just would like to have a unique film that makes him stand out on fil. (More so than he does already =) )

I found it fairly simple when I learned the program. It's waaaaay easier than PhotoShop or other Adobe products. And for what it's worth, adding music behind it is very easy. Just import the song or piece you want and lay it down as one of the tracks. Then you can sync your cuts and highlights up to it. Just a thought. I'm not here very often anymore, but I'll check back if you have any questions.

Thanks much man. Big help. Haven't dloaded it yet but soon. And the only reason we don't want music is bc coaches and schools HATE IT.
LOL- can you imagine having to listen to Snoop or Tool every time you watched a tape.(All day). Haha

Music is cool for youtube videos, but you're right, coachs don't like music in the HL video.I always go with crowd noise.

I've been using Windows Movie Maker, which is all you need for basic editing, and it has pretty good quality, but you can't highlight,or put an arrow on a player...which is a huge problem with linemen.

I recently bought Final Cut Express editing software for my Mac,but it has a steep learning curve, and I don't have time to fool with it right now because I need to get a kid some HL film ready asap.

If anybody can tell my how you go about putting an arrow,or a "glow" around a player with Adobe Premiere I would really appreciate it. I don't have a copy of Adobe Premier, but you can find it for around $70 off ebay.
