I haven't checked any formal stats but it sure seems to me that every college game has waaaay more false start penalties than in years past.

And they are legit calls. Just more offensive linement moving early. Could be a combo of portal and nfl draft causing linemen not to play a lot of downs together, could be part of it.

Last week, it was our guys jumping on a silent count.
It is usually the visitors jumping because of noise disrupting their internal count. It is an over-stimulation thing.

A lot of teams are trying to play fast, some at unusual or inconsistent times.

The announcers last night mentioned that UT might have a problem going from their fast pace offense to a slower pace to kill the clock. i.e. most snaps were on the 1st "hut", but when UT got ahead that changed to 2 or 3 hut.
I think there were a couple linemen that moved to soon.

It could be that they're (offensive lineman) are just kind of "dumb."

Stability and reps.....and more reps......and more reps......and more reps. They have to be a unit as tightly synced as watch gears.

They haven't been because of lack of experience at their positions and injuries. With Cooper back, hopefully things will settle down and they can gel and we'll see fewer pre-snap penalties.

It's something that I've noticed more and more. It could be associated to lack of chemistry due to the portal. That's a possibility. You're not going to have that cohesiveness compared to before the portal was part of the game, and it's something to adapt to.

I think all the mixed tempo stuff comes into play too. more schools are trying to make up tempo part of their strategy at times, and that change completely throws off their rhythm. Even with an offense like ours you see false starts when we try to go slow(er). that also folds into the transfer portal thing.
