"9.9 million viewers is more than...

- Every NHL Stanley Cup game since 1973.
- Games 1, 2, 3 and 5 of the 2021 NBA Finals
- 2023 Sugar Bowl (Bama/K-State)
- 2023 Orange Bowl (Tennessee/Clemson)
- Every MLS game on record"

Rodger Sherman:
"Quick reminder that:
—the NCAA has always lumped TV rights to the women's tourney along with 28 other NCAA championships instead of selling them separately
—ESPN had never aired the women's title game on ABC

Hundreds of millions of dollars lost via internalized sexism!!!"

I had it on the TV so it marked me as watching it but it was boring compared to men’s basketball imo. Just so slow paced. Just my opinion of course. I try and like it but I can’t get there.

Iowa Basketball: Iowa vs. LSU title game shatters ratings records

A little additional info here. The finals doubled the ratings of last year, and many of the key players will be back next year.
Hilarious that people come to the women's basketball forum just to say they don't watch, like, or care about women's basketball. The comment that the final games were "slow" was a real knee slapper given that the women were scoring so much more than the men were in comparable games. I wish both our women's and men's team slowly got 100 points in a national championship game.

Was this thread started only to make a point about sexism?

They do massive draws to band comps does anyone ever bitch about lack of funds for trumpets?

The short answer is no.

Women’s basketball is a different type of game. I always enjoy watching the Lady Vols. This year’s women’s tourney didn’t get really good for me until Iowa knocked iff South Carolina. Until that happened, it just felt like we were going through the motions until Staley’s team won it all. Glad it didn’t turn out that way. Heck, as long as UCONN (or South Carolina) women don’t win, that’s a good thing.

Would have rather seen Iowa win it all, mainly because I don’t root for any SEC team besides Tennessee. LSU can get bent, just like the rest, but they are a darn good team.

I didn’t like the end of game childish taunting crap (and if Clark was doing it previously, that was stupid too). But I guess it gave us fans a manufactured storyline to enjoy.

I admit, the women’s championship game felt more compelling than what I’ve watched through the first half of the men’s championship game.

The true shame about this game was it did not make prime time tv viewing like the men's game tonight and it should have. Somebody in women's basketball needs to throw a rock about that.

I have been outspoken about the lack of quality play in the women’s game for a number of years. For me, I think the overall game has diminished since our LVs were winning championships. However, this year I watched our LVs as well as the elite 8, FF, and finals. I came away impressed with the style of play, aggressiveness, and skill. This was a great tournament and one that should increase viewership for years to come.

The point is that the NCAA has made a really bad business decision in how they handled the television rights to the women's tournament. And it hurts women's programs because men's team get around a 2 million dollar bonus from the NCAA for each tournament. The women get a grand total of ZILCH for each game they win. The rating show market value that is being capitalized. I find it interesting that in clear cut of gender based inequity (that is actually costing the NCAA) revenue some feel compelled to yell "Don't you dare talk about sexism in front of me!" but unfortunately ratings and revenues don't care about your feelings.

Please watched for Clark and Reese, 2 new teams in the finals(No UCONN, SC, or Stanford), and maybe to see what Mulkey wore. It's definitely debatable who was watched more for Clark or Reese but not everything needs to be a big debate. Just glad 10 million people watched, great numbers for women's basketball.

Sheez, again? People should watch the game if they wish. I think the point some are making is that watching women's basketball is not as exciting for them. I don't watch high school boys basketball, even though they would beat lsu, uconn, vols, Iowa, etc.

The men’s game isn’t that great anymore with all of the top talent being one-and-done.

Now…80s and 90s men’s basketball? A whole different level.

Will say this as a die hard men's and women's fan - fell asleep during the men's final game - did not happen during the women's championship game.
