This is all anecdotal from some Cincinnati fans I know. So, take it for what it's worth.
When Dantonio left Cincinnati he had built up some talent that Kelly was able to completely maximize. The evolution of Dantonio's last class came to a head for Kelly in his 4th year. While Kelly was at Cincinnati he didn't recruit well as it has been speculated he never intended to be there more than his 4th year.
Kelly, to Cincinnati, was like Petrino at Louisville. They built the program to national recognition and then left without leaving a solid framework. Jones came into a situation that Kragthorpe came into at Louisville except Jones could actually coach.
That's it. Just thought I would pass along some interesting tidbits that I came across. Most of the Cincinnati fans seem to like Jones and saw him as a quality coach.
The 1-2 record versus ranked in 2011 and 2012 concern me as well as the possibility that he'll bring his merry band to UT and try to (and likely fail) at installing the spread offense here.
