This is all anecdotal from some Cincinnati fans I know. So, take it for what it's worth.

When Dantonio left Cincinnati he had built up some talent that Kelly was able to completely maximize. The evolution of Dantonio's last class came to a head for Kelly in his 4th year. While Kelly was at Cincinnati he didn't recruit well as it has been speculated he never intended to be there more than his 4th year.

Kelly, to Cincinnati, was like Petrino at Louisville. They built the program to national recognition and then left without leaving a solid framework. Jones came into a situation that Kragthorpe came into at Louisville except Jones could actually coach.

That's it. Just thought I would pass along some interesting tidbits that I came across. Most of the Cincinnati fans seem to like Jones and saw him as a quality coach.

The 1-2 record versus ranked in 2011 and 2012 concern me as well as the possibility that he'll bring his merry band to UT and try to (and likely fail) at installing the spread offense here.

Well, at least he has beaten a couple of ranked teams. That puts him ahead of Dooley I guess, despite the fact that he lost to Dooley. smh

I found this at the bottom of a Cinci article talking about Jones leaving...

Sophomore kicker TONY MILIANO
“He seemed pretty genuine about it. You know how he is. I think he really like it here but he told us that Tennessee was one of his dream jobs.” “It’s his decision. It’s his life. He’s got to make decisions for his family, for himself. I guess he did what he thought was best.”

I loved seeing that.

The stat I liked the most: Cincy is ranked 12th in the nation in Defense. But he has not beaten a ranked team so I don't know what you guys are looking at because I don't see it, therefore making him 0-3. But in his tenure at Cincy, he was 2-1 vs Charlie Strong :)

and LSU fans wanted to fire Miles for Dooley!!

I hope butch becomes a legend at UT and I will cheer as hard as ever this fall, but not sure any info, stories, or back patting is going to remove the pit in my stomach from the national disgrace this search brought us - and that's a statement on the process not specifically on Jones.

getting your information from reddit? how embarrassing.

I didn't get it from reddit but I'm not discounting the 2 guys I talked to didn't get it from reddit or post it there.

I did say it was anecdotal.

I appreciate the fact that we have a quality coach in place. I am somewhat surprised by the number of bloggers who unrealistically thought we would be able to get someone who is a "super coach". These coaches do this for a living and believe it or not, they have feelings just like you and me. It is time to stop this nonsense about who we did not hire and support and rally around who we now have running this football team. Remember, we were not very good for the last few years, some of you have even said we were terrible!

And what I wrote here was pretty much a copy-paste of a FB conversation I had with a guy from Ohio that I served in the Marines with. That bastard, I'll never trust him again.

Also, given the hire has only been out for about, what, 3-4 hours naturally all conversation will have happened in that timeframe.
