Views on Recruiting Class

I agree that Butch has things under control but for some reason otger can't see that. Dooley didn't even bother to contact some of the highly vauled recruits that Butch was in on in less then 2 months time. He did a good job. I think our next class will be top ten easily.

Yeah the last Bleacher Report, Vol-oriented article I seem to remember was arguing that we should keep Dooley, because UT fans shouldn't expect to win games in the SEC anymore. I guess the viewpoint has remained consistent, at least.

I didn't write that one. I was fine with firing Dooley. I wrote this one saying improvement should bring optimism, not past results and program stature

My view on this recruiting class is simple, it isn't good.

Unless CBJ is an elite X's and O's guy, this recruiting class will end up right about where it's ranked SEC-wise.

Before the fourth-stringers start flaming, I'm not putting a final indictment on CBJ's recruiting ability. The 2014 class may turn out to be excellent, but this one doesn't excite much joy in me outside of a very few players.

Awesome quarterbacks.
Great Receivers
Good TN Talent
A couple of great ends
Lots of Positive Momentum with 2014 recruits

I am going to stay positive until Kentucky, Missouri or Vandy beats us again.

You guys need to give Butch more time. He did well for only being here a short time. Next year we will get some of those battle players that we lost this year. Butch may not be the ultimate answer, but he will get us back in the right direction. He is much better than Dooley if nothing else.

Come on vol brothers and sisters this is a solid class. A lot of these guys are top twenty and top ten guys from their state. For them to be ranked that high despite stars is a sign. Jaylen miller is the top d end from s Carolina and we all know how that worked out for clowney 2 years ago.also jabo lee is 12 th rated prospect from s Carolina. I looked up a lot of our guys on rivals and their state rankings are all indications of a solid class. Please guys stop hating on this class and just be thankful for the guys we got

Maybe we have another Johnny Football in Dobbs. We seen what an impact he had with TA&M. Never know. I think it was a solid class. B. If we had gotten Bell, everyone would be praising this class. We'll be fine without him.

If TN would have signed as many four-star linemen the last four years as they have wide receivers then this team would have something.

Well he did only have a little over a month to recruit. What were you expecting? Top 10 class? This isn't gonna be a fast rise to the top thing here. And don't bring up auburn, ole miss or any other program right now. They've been more successful than UT lately. Also, UT has had 4 coaches in 6 years now. There's gonna be a lot of players not wanting to come here because of that. Heck, a lot of players parents wouldn't want them coming here because of that. Butch Jones can only do so much. It comes down to decisions of 17 and 18 year old kids and it's a tough decision. We would have vonn bell right now if dooley would've offered him. That's what bell's dad said. The fact that Jones was extremely close to getting him in such a short amount of time, proves this staff can recruit. We're going to get some big time recruits after this year, guaranteed. Besides, no matter who Tennessee got, 2013 is gonna be a hard year. I wanna win just as bad as any vol fan right now, but it's gonna be a slow process I'm afraid, but it'll be worth it!

No. We get it, CBJ is mediocre. Your the one that keeps going on and on about how fantastic he is!:hi:

Lol. I don't post that much on here...but ok. I back our coach and believe in him. So pardon me for not being annoying and not being negative when this class really isn't that bad considering how little time he had.

31 DAYS folks, that's all the actual recruiting time bUTch and his coaches had to try and build a solid relationship with these kids and their families.

31 DAYS when many coaches are talking to these kids for 2 YEARS and sometimes 3 YEARS when a kid is obviously a superstar in his Soph year in High School.

Recruiting is all about building very solid relationships with the kids, their coaches and their families over a long period of time.

4 coaches in 6 years shows ZERO stability in our footVol program and kids and their parents want to know that the coaches they entrust their kids to will be there when their kids graduate so they won't have so much turmoil in their college and football lives.

We probably just got the best QB class in the country so our QB position is solid for several years to come.

We filled serious NEEDS with some fine young men that can become great football players over the next 2 or 3 years as they mature, learn and get real game experience.

We got 3 players that Freak listed as surprise signees and 2 of those are D linemen that we badly needed.

This is a solid class especially when our coaches only had 31 days to work on it.

I'll bet that 2 years from today we're cheering our coaches at the haul of great recruits they bring in after they've has 2 years to build relationships and trust with the kids and their families.

This is a step by step LONG term process to rebuild our program back to the top in the SEC and this was just step 1 with many, many more steps to be taken.

VFL...GBO!!!

Its an average class which is OK but nothing to be jumping for joy over. I still don't understand how people can blindly saw this staff is going to rock the world within 2 years n everyone not sniffing their jocks is going to regret it...

Its OK to look at thing objectively or have a different expectation than others.. if not cdd would still be our coach because all the sheep on volnation wanted to give more time to coachem up n get his recruits..

The negativity on the recruiting class reminds me why I rarely read these boards any more. Honestly, this forum is filled with way too many morons.

Butch Jones had like maybe six weeks to turn around a trainwreck of a recruiting class put together by Dooley. He actually managed to pluck a few guys that Dooley didn't really bother with. It'd been great Butch had gotten Von Bell, as well, but every single year, there are a few last-minute switchers. The class is not made by one player.

Coaches build relationships with high school prospects over several months and even years. Jones had a few weeks to try to salvage things and did alright. If he had landed a top 25 class, he would have deserved an A+. As is, he probably deserves a B+.

For 2014 and 2015, we'll actually get a better look at how Butch can actually recruit. No coach on this planet was going to take the sub-top 40 class that Jones inherited and turn it into a top 10 class. Not Nick Saban. Not Les Miles. Not Brian Kelly. Not Urban Meyer. None of those guys could've magically turned this around in less than two months.

For the record, Nick Saban's first class at Alabama was ranked #22 overall and #7 (out of 12) in the SEC by Scout. His second class was #1.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a single-instance of a new college football coach taking over and dramatically improving a recruiting class within two months.

Agree that Jones probably did as well as could be expected in a short recruiting cycle, especially since the "best staff in America" was primarily from Cincinnati and didn't have many of the big names on their contact lists. Sorry, I had to take the one shot. I was hoping we'd at least get Bell so NSD was a bit of a disappointment not to see any big surprises.

I think he'll have a better staff than the previous administration and will ultimately recruit better. It starts with improvement on the field.

This recruiting class has some very good players in it. It also filled some needs.

Not gonna lie...I'm a bit disapointed but not with who we got. Gonna love watching this class of Vols.

It's who we didnt get that has me alittle bummed.

Auburn was espn #11 - new coach, so I am a bit disappointed -- also USC in the top 10 with sanctions on scholarships again no excuse -- I don't blame Jones the school should be able to sell itself and for some reason it didn't -- a couple big upsets are needed this season
