Legendary UGA football coach Dooley dies at 90

Bob Woodruff wanted to hire Auburn Freshman Coach Vince Dooley badly as Tennessee head football coach in 1964 and when Georgia hired him he turned his attention to Arkansas Position Coach Doug Dickey.

He was a heck of a coach and a legend during his time. Thoughts and prayers to the Dooley family and Dawg nation.

When a good friend of mine and I were in high school, they made the mistake of letting us be the game announcers for a JV football game. We did, interspersing our commentary by imitating Vince Dooley and Rudi Hubbard (FAMU).

And thus ended our broadcasting careers.

Can't have a top ten SEC coaches ever without Vince Dooley. Getting Herschel Walker helped his career but 201-77-10 is pretty damn good

It's a sad day. He was the coach when I was there.
You probably don't know this, but he is the reason you can watch all these games. Back then the NCAA owned the TV rights. You got one game each week. One year I was working in NYC. It was WLOCP Saturday, and I got to watch Rutgers at PSU.
UGA and OU sued the NCAA and formed the College Football Association. Dooley was the president. The NCAA caved and the TV rights went to the schools.
