This whole super conference talk has thrown a lot of names out (V Tech being one) and I've seen here and around the net where people think the Hokes are 'slightly' overrated and benefit from a watered down, weak ACC schedule. So watcha think?

IMO, I think Beamer is a really good coach. I've noticed though that Tech is slightly inconsistant when they play on a bigger stage (Stanford, Alabama recently, w/l in past bowl games etc..) I know the weaker ACC helps them get all those 10 win seasons but I still think they are a pretty good football team capable of playing with anyone.

I honestly see nothing appealing about them...They were nothing until Vick came there...Got most of their wins in the weak big east and the ACC which they had to threaten to sue to even offer them membership..The ACC didn't even want them! :clapping:

I think they are above average where they are. They would be below average in our SEC. Same applies to a&m. The only team that has been mentioned that could make some noise right away if they moved to the SEC, would be FSU, IMO.

Check your history. The ACC wanted them. UVA didn't want them to join. The governor had to twist the Hoos arm.

I think they would be a great addition. They fit geographically...they are considered a top 30 program if not higher. They have a good stadium and a great atmosphere for games.

Also they will bring in the VA TV market, they would help us recruit in the state of Virginia and they would become one of our biggest rivals quickly.

I want them more than anyone.

Every team we add doesn't have to be a top 10 program.

These programs will benefit from being in the SEC and will only get better...not worse like a bunch of you keep acting like.

Think how much easier in 4 years it will be for A&M to get in on the top Texas recruits...they will pitch the come play for the top conference in the world and get to stay in your home state as well angle.

If anything it will really hurt LSU and Oklahoma with A&M coming to the SEC cause they dip into TX a lot for recruits.

Virginia Tech could actually start recruiting high caliber players which they do not get right now due to being in the SEC.

Beamer put them on the map. Lets see what happens after he leaves. Then we'll know if they're worthy to even be considered in the SEC. Until then they need to stay in that crap of a football conference.

Beamer runs a solid program. They would make an above average SEC team. Their dbs, receivers and backs and special teams could compete at a high SEC level. Qb would be average to slightly below.

Their lbs, dl & ol would need to be beefed up to compete on a weekly basis in the SEC. Because Beamer doesn't recruit nationally, those positions tend to be smaller guys that they bulk up. That wouldn't work in the SEC.

Not everyone that joins the SEC can be Rocky Balboa. We need some Apollo Creed's on the schedule too. Va Tech fits into that analogy.

He didn't say they were Butterbean.

We are the SEC. WE dont have to dip. If someone wants to be in our club they need to bring something to the table, not be pansies. Va Tech was nothing before Beamer. As of now they are a 1 hit wonder. When they have their resume built, MAYBE.

Not what I am saying. And if my Rocky memory is correct, Apollo beat Rocky a time or two. Current SEC schedule already contains enough perennial powers.

So since I was not clear I will explain: IMHO we should invite competent & competitive but not perennial power schools.

Virgina Tech would be a good middle of the pack SEC team.... better than Vandy, somewhere around where I rate us this year. The difference is we will get better, I am not sure about Tech. Also Tech would give Ky someone they might be able to beat before a 25s run by

They're not inconsistent on the big stage, they're terrible on the big stage. Their win over Cincinnati (yes, that Cincinnati) is their only BCS bowl win ever. They even lost to Kansas.

They are very, very good at running through a schedule full of borderline top 25 teams and finishing at the top of the heap, and they can occasionally pull a big upset in the regular season ('03 Miami comes to mind). But while they're consistently around #15 in the country, they're rarely if ever top ten.

Unlike Apollo Creed, Virginia Tech has never been the undisputed champion of anything.

screw Va Tech. Blacksburg blows balls and their students are mostly nerds from Northern Virginia.

Techs biggest problem has always been their scheduling. They spend the entire year playing cupcakes. Then when they play a real team it takes them half the game to adjust to the increased tempo and speed. They've tried to do a better job scheduling to fix that problem.
