Seems like every company has some type of VR headset going to market soon. I have a hard time seeing them catch on outside of the hard-core gamer niche.

At least until they are streamlined. They just look too cumbersome for any practical use right now. Google had the least bulky one and after their pilot program they are putting it on the back burner.

Is anyone really interested in these?

Google Cardboard is neat to play around with.

I'm a gamer and I'm looking forward to Oculus and all the others. Obviously, it'll be great for that. And porn. Porn will sell a lot of headsets.

I see VR and AR becoming more and more common place as the years go by. VR will be great for training, gaming, movies/entertainment. AR will be what you use everyday in the coming years.

Speaking of AR, I've messed with Google Glass and I'm not surprised Google hasn't done much more with it. It didn't hold my attention but a few minutes. When they can take a normal looking pair of glasses and get the screen on there with a small battery pack behind the ears, it'll start catching on more widespread. Next up would be contacts with wireless power from your clothes or batter pack on your person.

Tried out the Gear VR from Samsung the other day at work. It was pretty amazing. Only compatible with the Note 4 at the moment, but I was very impressed.

I haven't used any of these yet but they do seem like they would have some cool factor to them. I like to play different flight sim games so I think they would be AMAZING for that!

That being said, I don't think anyone is quite there yet. Most of them are extremely bulky and cumbersome. Also since they cover your eyes, it seems like it would make using any other peripheral device (keyboard, flight stick, throttle, mouse) very difficult. Perhaps they could make one so that you could cut your eyes down to see under the headset so that you can see these things.
