Vol fan for 35 years, but I’m bring my 6 year old son to Knoxville for the first time to watch the Vandy game next week. He’ aching to see the players up close and possibly get some autographs. Any recommendations to we I need to take him? TIA.

Can't say on the signatures, but I was 6 when I went to my first game in '65. Autographs or not, he'll remember the day for the rest of his life. Cherish every memory you can make with your son.

I don’t mean to hijack this thread, but what age is “appropriate” to take a child to a game? My son is only 2 1/2 months old, but I’m already dreaming of the day of packing the car to take him to his first games.

I’ve struggled with that exact question. I figured he was ready when he actively interested in Tennessee sports. It’s taken all my will power to wait 6 years. Hahaha

My 4 year old daughter throws her arms up and yells “FOOTBALL!” when she sees a Power T. Haha I’m trying.

I think a year or 2 after they start expressing a desire to go or wanting to watch the game on TV. And I mean they want to watch the the game even if no one else is there. A long anticipation really makes the event much better in my opinion. When they know what offsides is. When they can explain why teams punt on 4th down. A year after THEY want to play catch in the yard with dad or whoever is taking them to the game!!!
I think 8 or 9 is generally best but maybe never. Maybe they express more interest in basketball or acting or WBB or soccer or art and then you should take them to something along those lines instead.

Whenever they can throw a mustard bottle with perfect aim you will know they are ready.

My kid wanted to get on the jumbotron, so he took a mask (non N95 type). He was so little he looked like a troll wandering through Neyland. I know, not basketball, but it was fun. We went down to the wall in the south endzone. His brother in the foreground grinning. He got on the jumbotron a lot. He's now an electrical engineer at a TVA plant. This was the Notre Dame game I think.

I’ve told this story before on here, but my father insisted that he and my mother take me to a game at Neyland when I was two weeks old. She says that it was the last thing she wanted for her newborn, but it would make my dad happy, and she thought it wouldn’t hurt anything. At some point in the game, there was an explosive moment that left me and my mother covered in contraband alcohol. She marched us all to the car, and she hasn’t set foot in the place since. But my point is, that was a half century ago, and I think I turned out just fine. I say take your little one at your earliest convenience, but just don’t ask the opinion of my mother.

If they’ll sit in front of the TV at home and watch the game, chances are they’ll enjoy it more in person.

Just make sure they’re old enough to enjoy the game without ruining your enjoyment of the game.

Bringing a two month old to a college football game is lunacy in my opinion. Tailgate? Sure.

I took my 6 year old daughter to a college basketball game even though she had little interest in the sport or outcome. She enjoyed seeing the cheerleaders, mascot, and concessions. I think we left at halftime.
