So I'm thinking about bringing the wife and two kids (8yr son, 5yr daughter) to the Austin Peay game. There are a LOT more tickets, at much more reasonable prices on the Austin Peay side of the field. We prefer to be closer to the field. Any compelling reason(s) to not go with the better, less expensive tix?

GA has an important point. When I brought my wife and MIL up for the Pitt game two years ago, I made sure to buy seats in the lower sw corner (O or P?) to keep them out of the sun...

I have kids and sit on the visitor side, other than the sun and overly drunk fans screaming things you may not want the little ones to hear you will be fine. I will not take my youngest to any SEC games as they obviously get a little more rowdy. I would suggest ear plugs just in case and some predownloaded games on your phone that don't require internet.

Austin Peay will only be in the one small section close to the north end zone. Directly behind the team is all Tennessee fans then the student section going South. What section are you considering

5pm ain't that hot though

It is in early September. The big problem is the sun is right in your face until it drops below the press box. My seats are in Z12 and for those early games, you just have to endure the 1st half the first few weeks. Sections A-about I are an EasyBake oven until the sun drops.

If I was taking little kids and I could find a reasonable alternative, I’d find seats somewhere from M around to the Y’s.

5PM start shouldn't be much of a problem, at least not for long.
It'll definitely be a 1st half thing. I was trying to remember how long it took for the sun to drop behind the pressbox. I'm thinking it takes until about 6:00-6:15 to really get a lot of East side seats into shade and then you get the kind of effect below where the North end gets shade and it moves to the east side. The seats from A-roughly J are the last to get cover.

I know I'm beating a dead horse. Just trying to help a dude with a 5 year old not be miserable in case it's 90*. They wouldn't last 20 minutes in HH getting roasted like french fries lol.

Here’s a cool time lapse from a 6:00 kickoff. 5:00 happens during pregame at about 30 seconds in. Kind of cool to watch the shade line move and which sections it covers. This is taken from about Y8. Section A is directly to the left of the closest endzone.

@PMC2726 this may not be accurate. It depends on what row your tickets are on as you stated you like to be closer to field.

around 5 pm there may only be an hour or two of sun on you with a 5 pm start.

My tickets are lower bowl visitor side row 55 and I expect to only have sun for max an hour until around 6.

5 pm start really helps with Sun.

Agree, mine are row 56. We have sat on the visitor's side for over 5 decades and love being close to the students. My son who has cataracts will stand at the top when sun bothers him.

It looked like cloud cover blocked out the sun, so it was a little difficult to tell the time the sun hid.
Yeah… wish it had stayed sunny. The one thing you can definitely tell is that when the T opens around 6:00,the whole visitor side is in the sun. Sitting lower would help, but I think with a 5:09 kick you have to assume sun for most of the 1st half over there.
