This is interesting. Sounds like Burns left because someone falsely claimed Ahuna got 250k to come here.

One thing about my little rant, and I don't like listening to myself talk. But I do know i left out one thing when i was talking about the media. I didn’t mean to say last year's team wasn't fun or anything like that. But last year we got off to a rough start because we had a player come through the portal to us to play shortstop (Maui Ahuna) cause this is where he wanted to be.

"Just because someone tweeted out that we gave him $250,000 or some absurd amount that became the thought around our locker room and around the team, and it started a mess. It wasn't true, it wasn't even close to being true. We had a player we had signed, ran off and played at another program, we went ahead and released him,. That we lost because of that tweet."

Ben McKee seems to think it’s because of the Miami transfer that was visiting over the weekend

Tony's not referring to Burns. He's talking about a new player they signed last year and then released because of the Ahuna rumor.

Anyone know who was the signed player who left? And who made that tweet?

So someone tweeted that Ahuna was paid $250k.

As a result, someone left the program? Or was the player asked to leave? Is Tony referring to two players?

I can’t decipher due to punctuation so thanks in advance for clarifying.

I moved this to a new thread for discussion.

I had wondered for a while if TV would address the issues he had vaguely referred to in the past about what a difficult season it was off the field. I had a feeling in revolved around Ahuna and NIL.

*edit. Just noticed there was another thread on this so I merged.

This goes to the state of media today. There’s a rush to be the first to report instead of being the first to verify. It’s caused issues in multiple areas including politics, sports, and crimes. It happens on every outlet and every type of medium but especially Twitter.

There needs to be more pressure on the media to be factually correct over shock value and timing. Accountability in media for misreporting and misinformation should be status quo.

My understanding is that CTV had signed another kid to come play here, but once he heard the apparently untrue and absurd rumor that Ahuna got $250k to come here, he wanted out of his LOI/commitment/papers. CTV let him go.

I think CTV is referring to another transfer or maybe a HS kid but I have no clue who.

Yeah it's really disgusting and makes it impossible to know the truth before easily manipulated people take it and run with it.

I am of the belief that knowing the 100% truth is virtually impossible at this point because of corporate media slant anyway, but headline chasers have replaced ambulance chasers as the scum of the earth in my opinion.

"Promised money" is a problem, because NIL is based on the athlete's marketability. If the kid isn't marketable, or the marketability wains, the money changes.
Yep, it's happening and the lawsuits are already starting. Gators are first with a broken promise to a kid who was offered over $10 million and didn't get a dime.

I have a friend who is a pretty good size booster for UGA and he said they are having major problems with the issue of promised money. One b ball kid they promised money to couldn’t even crack the starting lineup. He wants to be paid and the booster’s don’t want to pay him

Must suck playing poker with Tony. Must seem like he draws three of a kind every deal.

They used to print retractions… granted, last page or hidden as filler elsewhere. 😉

That train LEFT the station years ago and it's not coming back. Make them pay for access.

Yes. I’m NEVER amazed anymore how corrupt the media actually is. For years when people stated this now clear truth…they were considered troublemakers, non-conformist radicals or conspiracy theorists. As long as people stumble along and never really desire the truth, we will have these parasites preying on simple, shallow minds that think details are in the headline. I agree. That train is waaayyy down the proverbial track.

Remember when 60 Minutes was awesome must see tv, they’d walk into a business or interview and confront them for wrong-doings….now all tv is opinions, and propaganda crap. Enough said on this topic before it gets moved…….😀
