It's Monday, so its time for my 2 cents of the upcoming game.

~Thoughts on Vanderbilt~

Before this season, the media would talk at length about the success Vanderbilt had last season and how they could possibly make some noise in the SEC east this year. My thoughts on them is that they're a somewhat average team this year. They did have 2 wins over ranked opponents UGA and the gators (although both teams weren't at 100%). On the flip side, they had 2 wins where they should've routed the opponents, but ended up struggling against (A Umass team that was winless at the time, and a Kentucky team that's 2-8)

They do have a stud WR that will be playing on Sundays named Matthews. They've won most of their games by forcing turnovers and giving their offense short field. Their weaknesses appear to be stopping the run on defense, and having a hard time scoring TDs when they have to go down most of the field on offense. Overall, this is at best an ok team that has a couple of really good pieces on their team.

~Keys to the game

1. Field position is critical in this game. Vandy can definitely score when they get short field, so it's very important that the vols have great special teams play and not turn the ball over a lot on offense.

2. We must prioritize the running game. This is a weakness of the vandy Defense, so the offensive line needs to play their best game to exploit it.

3. The defense must slow down Matthews. He will get his yards, but we can't allow him to walk over the defense.

Prediction: 27-14 Vols. It will be a night game in Neyland, and UT is hungry for a bowl berth. I believe this will be a breakout game for Josh Dobbs.

As always, thanks for reading. :)

Vey good post as I totally agree. I would add that our defense is going to have to get back to the way we played South Carolina. Vandy is not a top ten team so I think we will see much better defense. On offense, we have to keep it simple for the QB and again I think we will. I would like to see Dobbs complete one or two long passes and the running backs break one or two for 30-50 yards.

All in all, I have a good feeling about this games. Home game, a motivated crowd, night game, and payback will result in a Vol victory along the lines of 31-13. GO VOLS!

Although North and Sutton have been huge this year- I cannot help be impressed with Palardy and the significant improvement he has had from last year. His punts are continuously giving us a field position advantage (though our D have not been able to capitalize on them the past few games)...I actually have confidence in him when he kicks a field goal this year, which if you've followed Vol football at all, that alone should garnered a vote

Not yet. Kickers are an afterthought until you need one.
GO VOLS!

Yes. Whether he goes draft or does not get drafted, Palardy will be laying on his couch, drinking wine, like Brodus, and the NFL will come calling. Palardy has improved and is NFL worthy.

I really believe the key to this gm is simple, who ever controls the line for the run gm I think will win this gm. I think Neal is ready and overdue for a big bust out gm and I think it will be Saturday after watching Vandys D against the run this yr. GO VOLS!

Palardy and our defensive line is the key to this game. I expect our offense to do just fine, barring any bad turnovers. I hope we see a lot of Corey Vereen this Sat night, I think he could be a difference maker.

This game scares the **** out of me.

If we show up ready to play and the crowd gets into it, Vandy doesn't stand a chance. But if we show up flat or Vandy somehow jumps out to an early lead, I think it could get ugly. I don't think CBJ will let them lose though. Unlike the last 3 games, he knows we should and can win this game based on talent and speed alone.

I'm going with 31-21 Vols.

Palardy by a mile. The kid is going to be an NFL kicker next year. I think this shows what good coaching can do to a kid.

That's it brother, your orange pride won out over the dark forces of Candyland! Looked like it was a struggle but you conquered evil for mom, apple pie, and the American way! GO VOLS!!
