Myrtle Beach, SC.- Tight ends a plenty. That’s what new Tennessee head coach Derek Dooley is looking for. He’s planning on changing things to a tight end heavy system. With that new system, requires tight ends to fill the need. Tennessee was able to dip into the Juco ranks and take a tight end that [...]

“We kind of talk about playing together. In fact we talked yesterday. He will do what’s best for him but I’ll stay in his ear and recruit him a little. I’m not going to be on him really hard all the time, but I know we’ll talk about it. He just doesn’t know enough about football over here so he asks us all a lot of questions about stuff. He knows Tennessee has an appealing depth chart for him, so we’ll see what happens.”

I like the sound of this. Apparently Williams has some interest. He is a beast and it would be huge if he ended up at UT.

I love these types of guys for UT. Knows that Tennessee is were he wants to be to the point of no other visits. Immediately starts recruiting to help the team and better his chances and the teams. Has apparently passed a character background check by Coach Dooley.

It still seems odd to use a scholarship on an unknown who only has two years to play two. But I trust the coaches' evaluation. They wouldn't have offered if they didn't think he could step in and play immediately next year.

I also love that all 3 of our commitments are 100% committed (or at least aren't taking any more visits and aren't showing any interest in continuing to look around) and that all 3 are early enrollees. Those extra 5-6 months in a college S&C program are huge.

I would much rather take a kid like this with good character and bleeds orange than a 5* kid with attitude and bad grades that might not even make it in.

The guy he's talking about is Jesse Williams and apparently he's a big DT, 330 pounds so he would a great get for us.

Jesse Williams has about every offer out there, I'm betting UT offers Williams very soon, but the kids' at home in Australia and nobody can really reach him right now.. he's big time, way up Alabama's board.

Most TEs aren't ready to start from day one and Tennessee is hurting for a true TE once Stocker leaves.

I'm not saying Powers is a bad player but this was a complete need and not a luxury recruit. Tennessee has to have someone ready to go from day one at TE. There aren't too many true frosh that can do that at the TE spot

Good character and bleeding orange doesn't win football games.

Neither does 5 stars, bad attitude and no grades. He didn't say he'd take a bleeding orange and character ver talent. Said he'd take it over 5 stars, bad attitude and bad grades so that he ight not get in.
