Going into the February signing period for 2009 recruits Tennessee looked like they had an outside shot at getting Bryce Brown to sign with the Vols. Brown eventually signed with the Vols who entered the picture late. Then David Oku another talented running back in the 2009 class followed Brown’s commitment a few weeks later. [...]

Um, I could be wrong.. but I remember Oku committing BEFORE Brown. Article says otherwise though.

Sounds like he is ours we really pursue him hard enough.
I don't think there is a better RB coach in the country than Gran. He's done a hell of a job coaching the guys we have (especially the "cut and go" technique he emphasizes. Foster and others used to dance around a bit before cutting upfield...that's a big no go with Coach Gran). I'm sure BB and Oku will help sell him.

One thing he offers over Dyer (who I like too) is that he would add to the STA pipeline (with Palardy already onboard)...and that's almost like being given the keys to Fort Knox, in recruiting terms.

I really feel that Bernard will be so impressed at this game because Lane uses all of the running backs. Keeps the fresh legs in the game and makes if feel more like a team effort. Plus the atmosphere. He understands the competition to play as well.

Actually, Oku signed on the dotted line March 5th. Brown signed over a week later. That's according to the Rival's articles. I remember we were questioning if Oku's signing would hurt us in getting Brown.

We only need one RB and I would love to get Bernard. I know Dyer is higher ranked but I like the competition that Bernard faces week to week. I also agree about the pipeline fro STA. A bernard and Riggs duo coming here would be huge.

Been reading for a while and thought it was time to post.

You can't deny how nice it would be in getting a pipeline to STA...Bernard will definitely see a sweet RB rotation today. I like his attitude...doesn't have to start, just wants to contribute all he can from day 1. Loving that team concept!

Oh man I would love to get Bernard...That kid can flat out play!...He would add some tremendous depth to the RB ranks....Teams would have a very difficult time defending us with 3 top flight rb's being rotated in and out all day.

That's how I remembered it, also.

like this guy...not a homerun threat but a tough runner that looks to always keep driving forward and carrying guys at times...good compliment to Oku and Brown...sort of reminds me of a younger Michael Turner style back( fights and fights for yards and then eventuallt bust a long run after wearing you down a little bit)

I've noticed how some teams seem to play a little dirty and try to go for guys knees and ankles (the play last week that had BB getting up really slow was a scary shot that looked intentionally aimed at his knee)...so having 4-5 guys that can start may be necessary. Especially when you have guys like Hardesty who just can't seem to stay healthy.

We can easily have one or two RB's out at any point in the season...so we need plenty of depth at that position.
