It’s not often that a high school football player remains committed to three different college coaches at the same university. But that has been the case with tight end Eric MacLain from Jack Britt High School in Fayetteville, North Carolina. MacLain has been a commitment under Phillip Fulmer, Lane Kiffin, and now Derek Dooley. But [...]

There is clearly something that this staff does not like about MacLain.

Don't be surprised if he is at Junior Day next weekend.

He wants to play TE, but he is projected to play OL.

He's going to be a tackle. He wants to be a te. The coaches will be honest and the kid probably won't like to hear it.

The coach was also clear to say that he was stating the kids perspective and not necessarily endorsing it.

Sounds familiar to me...

Girlfriend -"tell me you love me"

Me- "I love you"

Girlfriend-"tell me again"

Me- "I love you"

Ex-girlfriend- "You didn't love me enough. You didn't tell me enough. Why did I have to ask you to say it? Now you are going to have to PROVE it to me, otherwise I'm going to pout and huff and make your teeth itch with irritation."

Sounds like he's a little too high-maintenance...

I want people to understand, this doesn’t mean he is not going to end up at the University of Tennessee. It doesn’t mean that Tennessee is no longer in consideration for him. It means that Tennessee is going to have to go recruit him. And in the meantime, he is going to see what else is out there.

Seems like he's still a Vol if the staff decides to go after him.

With all the noise going around about this kid, someone on the staff has to be hearing about this. With that said, why don't they just contact the kid and tell him where they stand. I don't think it is asking too much.

They did. He's coming for jr day. The staff will fix it, they are used to dealing with overwrought 17 yr olds.

well they better fix this are thats stike one for me and dooley. gooood i hope we didint hire mike shula Jr...that or he better have a real surprize under his asss. Im not saying i agree with this but if dooley has a crap 2 years i think it might be his last. i just hope we didint give him a massive contract that wont let us go after coaches we really want.

dont hate on me about this, i know alot of people are fearing this in the back of their mind. im going to try and stay possitive and im still going to support him bc he is our coach....but no more of this BS mr dooley....or maybe you could make it in the SOCON and not the SEC...

I'm sure Dooley is hanging on every word you write, probably has a translator just to relay your words of wisdom.

if you can look at the facts of the situation that are now presented and say that Dooley gets a "strike" against him, well I don't know what to say. I'd have to put your overreaction in the same class as the kid. If your a teenager, maybe I understand, otherwise, I don't.

Would you please do everyone a favor and shut this non-sense up until you actually know something... PLEASE. While I'm sure that these lazy coaches are losing sleep over how many strikes you have against them... they're probably more worried about getting and developing players that will save their jobs in a couple of years by winning some games.

How did you even interpret what he said? You must own Rosetta Stone.

Great news. I saw that somewhere else, too. See, wasn't that easy.

Yes. We have a professional staff. I don't understand why people go nuts and assume incompetence when some teenager goes drama queen. It happened as it will, and they fix it. I'm beginning to believe most of the posters are 17 also.

Wake up staff before you miss this kid who BLEEDS ORANGE!!!!!!

This.

I'm tired of all the people making saying crap like "I'll trust the staff's judgement...." or "he wants to play TE/OL/....and thats not what we need"

Would it be so hard to call this kid a couple times to tell him everything is solid? From everything I've read, this kid is clearly talented, and he really wants to play for UT. Those are the type of players we want.

And its not like we only have a handful of scholarships left, I'd say we have 25+. So why not take a solid football player who bleeds orange? We can figure out where he wants to play later if thats an issue.

I'll hang up now and listen to people bash me.

Won't bash. You just don't know the facts. Baggett talked to his coach within the last two weeks and said yes he still has an offer, they are evaluating where he fits in the program and they are looking forward to meeting him on jr day. Obviously the hs coach thought that was ok.

The kid got caught up in his own head and it sounds like dad didn't help much, and got himself all worked up. The coaches are getting him straight. He is coming to jr day. End of story.

No bashing from me. Still got 11 months until signing day, though.

one other point. Can't just figure out where he fits later. Kid wants to play te and knows there is a question where he fits. Can't dodge the question, he's going to ask it and the staff owes it to the kid to be honest about where he fits. That's the whole "evaluating" comment by baggett. The staff is doing the right thing here.

I agree Sir...this staff will not recruit blindly just to fill a spot...they will determine if he fits their needs and will actn accordingly...it's still 340 some days until NSD...we have time...go VOLS!

Doesn't mean players don't move positions. But even hubbs said it's a lock that the kid will play line. The coaches have to be honest about that, they can't lie if they know he's going to be a big ugly....

Just let Dooley and staff do their work. Dooley was recruiting coordinator for Saban at LSU and landed two #1 classes and a #3 class. He was also working with Lance Thompson there. CHILL OUT and let the process work. Dooley knows what he's doing.
