Memphis, TN.- Recently the University of Tennessee and head coach Derek Dooley did a great job of snagging a couple of commitments from some in state targets. One of the biggest targets for the staff is offensive jumbo athlete Cameron Clear. Clear recently participate at Gridiron Kings after taking part in Florida’s Friday Night light’s [...]

I wish Clear would be someone we could get to commit to us sooner than later, but it sounds like he will be a player that won't make a decision till 2011.

Duke, seriously, unless he's an intelligent kid I couldn't see him going there.

Good to know. Hopefully the fact we'll use him at TE keeps us ahead.

I think that schools MIGHT try him at TE, but everything you read has him at a little bit slow for the position. Most project him at OT. I think he'll end up there whether he signs with UT, FL or whoever.

"Tennessee is talking good, coach Dooley is talking about how he wants to use me in the offense and some situational defense. I would line up at defensive end on those defensive occasions."

I think that would work well form him and it looks like he agrees. I really hope this young man comes to UT.

Yeah. I think CDD has a better vision for him than those saying OT. CDD & CNS both like his upside at TE and/or DE. Even though he's an excellent prospect, Bama's class is filling up and I don't think Bama will end up taking him unless they miss on some players they're expecting to land. IMO, Clear's most likely best option will ultimately be UT. And because of that I think he'd be better off to go ahead and pull the trigger now so he could start helping UT recruit.

That would certainly be ideal... but as long as he is taking free visits and being courted I dont think anything changes. I hope we get him in the end but unless the other's back off I think it will be NSD before he makes a decision.

That would be nice but not all of these kids think that way. They don't think about it as if was a business decision. Some kids just want to enjoy the recruiting process. I can't blame them for wanting to taking visits and have fun. I know I would have if I had the talent when I was their age.

Good points. It's tricky. You don't want to push recruits into committing before they're sure that they'll stick by it. And bear in mind that verbal commits can and do still take official visits to other schools. And some recruits are receptive when properly "educated" to think hard about whether they might be being short sighted. If that's done right, some will realize that a few free trips aren't really worth it when instead you could commit early and benefit more in the long run by helping recruiting momentum and by helping to recruit other good players to join you. I think we basically agree that some won't buy into that, but some will.
