One of the biggest names of this recruiting class has already come and gone…Or has he? Since his commitment to the Southern Cal Trojans a few weeks back, Jesse Scroggins has been very quiet about his recruitment and where things stand. That is usually the case once someone makes a commitment, but in [...]

I don't understand WHY great QB's are not beating down the door to come play QB for the Vols. Why could this be happening? Learn for a year and then if you are as good as advertised, start as a QB in the MIGHTY SEC. Maybe they are just scared? Just don't understand it.

Foxsports is reporting Barkley is named the starting QB. Three years pine Jesse. Three years.

I really believe that the declaration of Barkley as starter (confirmed also by several other media outlets) could persuade Scroggins to look elsewhere, and that could possibly bode well for UT. But, until Scroggins declares the re-opening of his recruitment or change of commitment, it's all rumor good or bad. I hope he re-considers, but I really think a good number of QBs are sitting tight waiting to see what happens with our offense this season. A turn around year by either of our QBs would mean more than anything to the quest to bring in a premiere name. Good or bad for us, football time is less than 2 weeks away and we can finally truly see what this staff can do on the field, not just on the recruiting trail.

We're still coming off of a 5-7 season. Nobody has seen Kiffin's product on the field yet. Plus, it's always tough to pull somebody out of USC's backyard and convince him to come 2,500 miles across the country when USC wants him.

Easy. Kiffin's offense is an unknown commodity.

Yeah, Yeah, I know he was OC at USC, championships there, yada, yada. But Kiffin and this staff have to show it before they come knocking the door down. Give it time, lets enjoy this season.

Exactly. Our system is proven.....but it is proven at a DIFFERENT school. Just give it time. If we win 8 or more games this year, and Crompton throws for 2500yds with 20TD's and less than 10 picks.....QB recruits will be beating down the Orange Door once gain.

I actually think the complete opposite. The sooner Barkley starts, the greater the chances are that he leaves SC after his JR year to become a millionaire. If Corp had been named starter, and played the entire year....SC would most likely have red-shirted Barkley after the season, delaying JS' chance to take over at QB for yet another year. Honestly though, I think the situation is moot. Unless CPC leaves the SC program, there is about a 99.99999% chance that in the next 2 years SC recruits whatever 5-star stud QB they decide they want, and he plays over JS. But hey, he gets to stay close to home....and Matt Cassel made it t the NFL without playin a college snap, so why not JS, right??

The article title is very misleading. Its things like this that keep these rumors going and threads popping up about this kid. He is USC bound. Period. Let it go.

The title of the article should have been "Scroggins Still Firm With USC, Despite Rumors".

The article title isn't misleading at all. 'Is Scroggins firm to USC?' is the question people are asking. The article clearly answers that question.

I agree, and I am glad he is solid to SC. He has strung us along way too far already. I will lose a lot of respect for the staff if we pay to fly this kid across the country and whine and dine him on the schools tab when we have no shot at him. Enjoy that bench Jesse!

Maybe if we put our focus on Bray instead. Bray has not indicated he is a strong verbal at SDSU. It sounds like Scroggins really wants to play at USC.

I believe our focus has been Bray for a while and will remain there. I'd be very pleased to see this staff sign Bray and one other QB (Grayson, Brunetti, Baty, etc.) with at least one being an early enrollee.

We really need 4 QBs going into the 2010 season.

Yep...just a solid, not spectacular, but solid season this year (simply marked improvement) and we have a really good shot to get Scroggins or another big name, I think.

But my point is why are people still asking this question? It's things like this.

The substance of the article is he is still firmly committed to USC, but you wouldn't be able to conclude that by the title alone. My first reaction to seeing this was maybe there is some legs to the rumor he might be second guessing himself, only to read it and find out there is nothing new. I think it is very misleading.

Rumors were still flying on this board and others about Scroggins. We felt it was important to clarify.

Again, the title is a question that people wanted answered.

Granted, the title is 'leading' but not misleading. Misleading would be 'Will Scroggins visit Tennessee?'. A valid question, but misleading.

By the way, there is something new in the article. Scroggins puts the rumors to rest. It's been a widespread rumor. Several other media outlets (including Dave Hooker who mentioned it today on the radio) have been trying to get in touch with him to address it.

I didn't start the rumor so I can't answer as to why people are still asking.

Don't get me wrong, it was an informative and needed article.

I just like my title better. :)

+1

Forget Scroggins, everyone. He is a USC lock, because he thinks he can be the next Cassel or Sanchez, ride the bench for several years, and still make millions in the NFL.
