Chandler, AZ.- Rising offensive lineman Tyler Johnstone recently returned from a big visit back east. He accompanied some friends on a big trip back to Tennessee. While back there he decided to visit the University and give it a quick look. The brief tour was eye opening to say the least and Tennessee appears to [...]

As our inside guest can attest, TN made a move here... hopeful for an offer. Oregon and TN are standing out early here.

Kid has an impressive offer list already from West of the Mississippi.

Terry Joseph is a great guy from what I can see. Ty seems to really like him a lot also. I really hope that Ty can get on the phone with Coach Heistand soon because that connection between player/ coach seems to be pretty important to Tyler. I know he thinks very highly of the OL coach up at Oregon, and couldn't stand the dude from Oregon St.

Originally he wanted to make a decision prior to his season starting, but with the interest being generated in him, and his recent visit here, that decision might have to wait till mid season, or even after his season is finished. I think I could guess his top 5, but I'd hate to speculate since he hasn't came out and told me yet. He wants a USC offer, but USC would not be his first choice in the process. He doesn't think too highly of LK.

Justin thanks for keeping in touch with Ty and posting your interview here for us. I appreciate it man.

^^ Similar comments regarding USC were made to me in convo, not print material however.

And of course, I like Ty, solid young man, good head on his shoulders.

I'm guessing you usually don't print stuff that you think could hurt a kid's offer list.

Would like to have gotten him back here for camp, unfortunately they had their Senior camp this weekend in Northern Arizona, and start fall workouts tomorrow. School starts back up there tomorrow.

I will let you guys know if it is for sure gonna happen, but right now it looks like one of the espn channels will carry the Hamilton vs. Chandler game this year. If they do, that will be a game everyone will want to watch. There should be no less than 15 D-1 prospect on the field for that one.

This is one of those offensive line prospects I'd love to see Tennessee land. He's a very legit prospect with a very legit list of offers.

I think this verbal commitment is in part out of fear of NOT getting an offer here, sharing the spotlight with Christian who is already committed to Texas, and that a fellow AZ OL from Chaparral has already committed to Oregon.

I think if we offered him he could be easily swayed, but who knows.. I mean during my conversation with Christian Westerman's dad, even he said it's not over till you actually sign the papers...

Good luck with that...

"Oregon has always been my top school and when I sat down and thought about it, I thought there was no school that would unseat them from that top spot so I talked it over with my parents and decided to commit to Oregon."

"I am completely done," he says. "I will only take my official visit to Oregon."

Well that very well may be the case, and if it is, like I told him, I wish him well. I mean.. It's not like I am close to this situation or anything:rolleyes:

Let's see if he changes his mind with a offer and after Sept. 11th.

He does not realize you are the father of Johnstone's GF and are the one who took him to Knoxville...
excuse him.

I'm not as close as webleedorange with him, but Tyler and I have spoken at least a half dozen times already, in fact I went beyond to get him in touch with someone at UT so they could meet him versus just walking around.
He has family in Oregon, one of his good friends is transferring to Oregon, he just said that he had that "feeling" on the visit that made him feel right about the decision.
Kids change their mind all of the time, stuff happens, but I'd bet that he sticks with it.. and we should all wish him well, and rest assured the UT staff has offers out already to several OL they like and are in on many of them.

i posted this over in the general sports forum as well. Tonight Ty and the rest of the Hamilton Huskies ranked in the top 25 in the country will be playing last years undefeated Nevada state champs Bishop Gorman. The game starts at 10pm est and can be seen live here AIA 365 - Bringing Arizona's High School Communities to the World

I expect this to be a great great high school football game. Here is an article from the AZ Republic about the game. National powers Hamilton, Bishop Gorman square off in Sollenberger Classic
