I watched the UT-Texas game yesterday and was shocked by the outcome. Texas was exposed by Duke in a 30 point loss and they were missing a couple of starters due to injury yesterday, but it was still impressive the way UT manhandled a top 10 opponent in their own house. UT is undefeated and now has some attention. I haven't heard much about them before now because of their non-existent preseason hype. Who else have they beaten and did yall expect them to start the season so hot?

Bama is struggling right now at 5-3 and still needs to find another guy to handle the ball besides Steele. Alonzo Gee, a freshman, seems to be picking up the slack and getting better. Bama plays a tough NC State team this Thursday and still has to travel to OU before conference play starts. I expect Bama to be a lot better when conference play begins and I believe Bama gets UT at home this year. If Bama can improve and UT is as good as they look, that should be a pretty good game. I remember a few years ago when both Bama and UT were both legitimately good and the games were televised nationally. Hopefully we can get back to that level this year because I think it adds something to the rivalry when the teams can compete at a high level in both football and basketball.

We need to get back to competing at a high level in football first

Seriously though, the preseason schedule wasn't complete cake.

(ex.) Southern Indiana, Win 86-78
(ex.) Carson-Newman, Win 106-73
East Tennessee State, Win 106-83
Louisiana Lafayette, Win 83-76
Eastern Kentucky, Win 92-58
Murray State, Win 64-53
Applachian State, Win 89-81
#6 Texas, Win 95-78

Lots of quality mid-majors in there. East Tennessee State, who is always tough and usually makes a Big Dance appearance; Murray State, who went pretty far in the tourney either this past year or in '04. Southern Indiana is a great D-2 program built up by Pearl, they have won some D2 National Championships. Carson-Newman is usually in the top of their conference and several D2 Sweet 16 appearances.

Oklahoma State is next (and probably only) quality opponent, before the SEC season starts. The real test of this team will be in SEC play. Then we will know if this was a lucky win or not.

well we all pretty much figured we may had the best gaurd combo in the country but no one thought wingate and bradshaw would improve as greatly as they did under pearl... some of us thought we could beat texas but others didnt... I am still alittle worried to see what we do aginst memphis and some of our big rivals in the sec..
