Not posted in a while, but I do enjoy reading this board.
I've been to two home games this season. In my small opinion, here are the keys to this weeks game against the Georgia pound-puppies.
Special teams MUST dominate every single time they are on the field. The term "suicide squad" was tossed around in the late 90's. We need to have this mentality and tackle fast, hard and we need to make it painful.
Our top rated, super-sized offensive line need to have a break out game. Use those freaking big bodies and open holes. No missed assignments. Wear the d-line down throughout the entire game.
Running backs need to hit the holes and play with heart.
They need to be consistent. Period.
Receivers, well, they need to catch the ball. Getting open helps. So does super glue.
Our QB needs to manage the entire game. It's either the QB's team, or it's not. There is no middle ground here. He must motivate, encourage and get in a face or two if needed. The team MUST see the QB as an extension of Butch Jones on the field. No football team will rise to the top if they lack confidence in their on field leader.
Our defense needs to play above their "blue collar" roots. Big Dan needs to be a leader. He needs to be angry. All of them need to eat, sleep, pi** and shi* orange this week. They need to be pissed off that any team, especially a dang bulldog would even consider coming into Neyland thinking they can win. Punish on every single play without exception.
Manage the clock. Perhaps the toughest assignment but it makes the most sense. Why? The other team usually scores far less when their offense is sitting on the sideline.
