I was listening to Vol calls last night. Summitt was on, Pearl was on, Delmonico and yes Fulmer was on also.

As always Pearl was fired up and made good statements. Summitt was not really asked a question by the callers instead they praised her and her teams performance (they did do a heck of a job in the SEC tourney). Nevertheless, Pat was excited and fired up about the NCAA's.

When Delmonico came on, Pearl started interviewing him, it was classsic. Delmonico was genuinely upbeat about his team and he and Pearl had a good short interview. Delmonico provided insite into his team and addressed team speed and pitching rotation as well as other team news.

Then on comes Fulmer....... Franky, I was very disappointed in Fulmer's comments and demeanor. He had flat tone to his voice and there was no enthusiasm and no excitement. There was no energy and no urgency in his voice or his comments. He talked for five minutes and I cant even really remember what he said except they were working on some new offensive things, practicing harder, etc. (no true insite)

I am not bashing Fulmer but he just did not seem upbeat in any way. He was basically emotionless. He was boring and uninspired.

I believe that a team's inspiration comes from the top down (ie the head coach) and makes its way to the players and then to the fans. Maybe last night was a fluke but I was not impressed. I am not saying that Fulmer has to be like Bruce Pearl or Pat Summitt but he does need to be inspired and upbeat in my opinion.

Please only respond if you heard the interviews!!!!!!!!!!!

He is the same way he has always been. He is a boring interview and always will be. He was the same in 1998 and every year before and since. He is an old O lineman and has that demeanor about him. But, I have spoken with many of his players and more imprtantly former players who cannot say enough good stuff about the man. If you have ever watched any footage of him in the locker room you see a different man altogether. That is his style and that style has made him one of the top coaches in the nation for many years.

I think you also have to keep in mind how scripted Vol Calls is. They would never let anyone talk to him who is going to challenge him. The only time I have ever seen Fulmer remotely excited (other than that 1/2 inch vertical celebration leap after the 99 Fiesta Bowl) is in the open press conferences last year. He got red faced and angry. Generally, he is just not very emotional to the media.

i didn't heare the interview, and i know i shouldn't post here, per the instructions given, but, it sounds like every other interview i've ever heard with him.

he's not going to suddenly change his style and become boistrous and excitable all of the sudden.

That's alwayes been his demeanor, and it always will be....i wouldn't read too much in to it.

Well my point is that the VOls have seemingly played uninspired football for the last couple of years. Coaching & players can be blamed but personally it is hard to do anything inspired when your leadership isn't.

I am not saying out with Fulmer but if tennesssee does not improve mightily then out say out with Fulmer.

Best advice for anyone in front of a microphone. Be yourself.
Anything else, the public sees right through it.
He's most comfortable with his own, "cautious"(for lack of a better word) delivery style, so he should stick with it.

I agree. There's nothing worse than somebody "trying" to come off as dynamic when they clearly aren't.

But Patrick CPF has had the same style with the media since he took over. Not a shot at him but he is a boring interview. He never airs dirty laundry and will always say nice things about who we play. That is just his demeanor infront of the media. It doesn't bother me.
