Accorrding to Brent Hubbs of Volquest.com, the USC Trigans offered Vol OL committment Cody Pope a scholarship earlier this week.
I said from the beginning that Pope's upside is huge and apparently the top program in the nation feels the same way. He is already 280lbs wit really good feet and athleticism. he has only been playing for two year, so he is still learning the game and the position. West coast recruiting guru, Allen Wallace says he loves Cody Pope and thinks he could be a big-time player in 2-3 years. Pope could be really good by his RS Sophmore year. He said he was very surprised the LA schools didn't go after him harder. Well, apparently USC felt they were missing out on a potentially big-time prospect and tried to steal him from us here at the end.

Also according to Hubbs, Cody Pope told them thanks, but no thanks. I am headed to Tennessee.

Just thought I would post this because I remember some questioning this pickup and everything. I thought those same people might want to know that USC saw enough in him to offer a scholarship.

yeah i hate it when people question a players ability just by looking at there size. I find it amusing win they sit here and rip him on there size and never seen them play a single down.

Seems kind of late to be offering a kid. I haven't looked at USC's class but are they in need of OL this late or did they just find out about him late?

I actually like the guys' size. I am not convinced that these 350lb. OL are the way to go. They are too slow, and too fat. Give me a 300lber with some athleticism who can pass block any day.

The same goes for a forty time ! I will be happy when they stop predicting a player's ability by his 40. Emmitt Smith never ran under a 4.5

I think that shows not only class on his part but a true desire to be a Vol. This guy is already high on my list.

This is very good to hear. A few weeks ago, talk was that we are losing players to very small schools, but now we are taking kids that USC wants. We still have a great chance to finish strong. These are the kids that we are in it the most:

Brandon Warren
Michael Goggans
Perry Riley
Kelvin Sheppard
Brandon Heath
Aleric Mullins
Adam Patterson
Dekoda Watson
Tim Hawthorne
Duke Calhoun

If we finish by landing Warren, Goggans, Riley, Sheppard, Mullins, Patterson, and Hawthorne, we will have a pretty good class and hopefully we are getting a head start on next years class as well.

I think we get:

Brandon Warren
Perry Riley
Kelvin Sheppard
Aleric Mullins

I think we have a pretty good shot with Adam Patterson. And I think Hawthorne is the wildcard of the bunch. Don't know what to expect. He is from Tennessee, his parents love the Vols, he did grow up a Tennessee fan, etc. But, we were late to offer and our offenisve struggles turned him off towards us. But, he did like us a LOT early on and getting that visit could bring him here in the end. Just don't know.

I think we will lose Goggans if Warren commits.

Duke Calhoun is Memphis bound. Brandon Heath didn't make his visit this weekend and is West Virginia bound. I don't think we get Watson.
Patterson will announce between Auburn, South Carolina, and Tennessee. I won't be surprised regardless of which of the three he chooses. I think Hawthorne probably goes to Auburn, but again, I think he is the wildcard and that we have a shot.

USC or UT...yeah this kid will make a horrible decision either way  Sounds rough...I'm sure most kids in the country wish they had this decision to make!

There's one thing you can't measure with a stopwatch. That's a players heart.

I may end up eating my words on this one. He isn't returning phone calls. Lets just hope that's good for us.
