I will be the first to give credit where credit is due. Derricke Dooley or at least his people concepted this program and made it a part of the Vol experience. It looks like this is going to be a factor in getting Malone. I loved the concept the first I heard of it and am happy that CBJ embraced it. It's is going to be a staple for TN for years to come. So, the Dooley era, although tough to endure as a Vol fan did produce something positive.

Go Vols.

It's IS a pretty nice recruiting tool. Too bad Dooley couldn't really use it to recruit well.

It's the one good thing he did. Too bad he didn't really mean it.

Not so fast my friends...If you get a chance take this campus tour.

This bamboo forest runs from Phil Fulmer Way to the Lane Kiffen Waste Treatment Facility.

I suspect he really did mean it and considered former players "VFL". He just demanded that they go away and be it somewhere else.

Lame. And I'm not referring to the "cane and stool" era.

Do they use this as a tool to help each other out after college whether it is sports related or just regular careers after school? They could build a pretty good network of people to help each other after college.

What exactly is the VFL Program...other than Al Wilson and P. Manning passing each other in the hallway and saying something along the lines of a popular Wrestling Crew (NWO)of the time ? Seems like Hogan, Nash, and Ramon used this in the mid 90's...

Now it's a GREAT GREAT Program, seems Dooley picked up on it as a joke, as Dorks will, then made it into something to talk about. Could be wrong but sounds like falling bamboo until another former Player actually speaks of it's benefits...

Maybe CBJ has actually put it into practice which would then begin to show fruit at some point .

"Vol For Life Program is a comprehensive player support and character education program." and "We are trying to get that program to grow to not just positively influence the guys on our team, but also better connect our lettermen ..." The original concept is described:
Davis Named Vol For Life Coordinator - UTSPORTS.COM - University of Tennessee Athletics

As I understand it, one of CBJ's priorities for this program was to strengthen that Lettermen connection and build the network you mention.

I think Davis is an excellent guy to head up te VFL program but I get the feeling that it's going to be Inky's job before too long. It just seems like a perfect fit.
