I wanted to ask if there exists a piece of the goal post anywhere that I could get for my wife and I want to explain why. While I grew up in Knoxville, she is from Missouri and went to Mizzou. We currently live in St. Louis with our five small (and very loud) kids. The tigers were incredible in football while she was a student there. In fact, she helped tear down the goal post and march it out of the stadium when they beat Nebraska at home one year. I've always been really sad about what she told me happened next.
They took the goal post down the street and began to cut up pieces of it and take it for souvenirs. It was proceeding in a very nice, orderly line, and she was going to get the last piece. But when the guy cut it, he threw her piece across the room to one of his friends and she never got a piece. You can imagine how disappointed she was. Over the years, I've looked for pieces of it on eBay but have never found anything.
Since we've been married, my wife has been drinking the orange Kool-Aid and has become a very big Tennessee fan. After the field goal, and after I finished screaming and jumping up and down, I went over to hug her and she had tears in her eyes. She was just as happy as I was. We started dating during Dooley's first year. She's lived through a lot of the hard years with me and that wonderful game together on Saturday was something we'll both remember forever.
That's why I want to ask for a piece of the goal post for her. She's become such a big Tennessee fan that a piece of this goal post would mean more to her--much more--than the one from when her alma mater beat Nebraska. I realize this is a fairly big ask. But does anyone have a piece that I could get or split? I'm willing to pay (nothing crazy), or is there even some crazy insane fan that's willing to go and fish it up from the river? Vol Nation remains undefeated and I'd love your help to get this for her.
