Coach Jones is no joke when he is pissed at his team..funny quotes..we may not win Sat, although I think we do but I will bet this team plays more physical and with less mistakes.

Jones is actually really witty, which doesn't come across in his interviews or press conferences.

Then again, I'd rather him save his one-liners for the players than the press conferences after humiliating losses.

Any direct quotes relating to all the players that Dooley called out in press conferences? I remember some lineman that he thought wasn't really injured, but I don't remember the other players. Who were they? Who specifically did he call out?

Butch is just cooler than Dooley, so he can get away with it. If you don't see the difference in Dooley's press conferences, and Butch's, then I'm not sure any amount of direct quotes will enable you to understand.

Only because I don't remember individuals that he called out , other than Cody Pope for the world's longest stinger injury. I'm not saying he did or didn't, but I don't remember him calling out that many individuals. Maybe he did, but who were they, and what did he say?

Dude just YouTube post game press conferences from 2010-2012. I guarantee 95% of them are on there. Dooley flat out said "were just not very good" IIRC, among other player specific call outs.

The biggest difference between Jones & Dooley, in this category anyways, is the "Butch Jones/Derek Dooley Shows" listen to the play by play commentary. Dooley constantly interrupts Kesling to berate players, whereas Jones always waits his cue and then builds players up rather than "see here so-n-so effed up he's gotta stop doin that"

Just pointing out seeming inconsistencies on VolNation.

Just my opinion, but I think the point is CBJ supports his players to the public, while Dooley often criticized them. Doesn't really matter if it was by name or as a group.

And the individual "calling out" in front of teammates in practice is called ACCOUNTABILITY. Not one thing wrong with that.

Vol practice report - FootballTime.com

Saw this posted by Ballin Vol in another thread I thought it was worthy of a new thread.

CBJ looks extremely constipated in the pic though.

The Highlights are look forward to seeing Lane and Neal together in the backfield.

QB depth chart is Dobbs, Ferguson, Peterman, then Worley

Our offensive line is soft.

Josh Smith is now taking reps with the second team.

The team spent alot of time running Tennessee Tough drills.

Favorite CBJ quote

Everybody wants to win until they’re hit in the mouth.”—Jones to the whole team during “Tennessee Tough” drills

Thanks BallVollin for the link in the other thread.

Considering I expect us to lose by 4 td's on Saturday and having to listen to Butch in the postgame talk about how we just need to win 2 more games then "Tennessee soft" about sums it up for me... Play not to get hurt on Saturday, beat Vandy and KY in the following weeks. I can't help but think that's the underlying strategy. If Team 117 from 2 weeks ago shows up then win or lose I retract my statement on the strategy.

Let's face facts, Guys! Tennessee IS soft. We have had Rbs, who could bench press 400+ pounds. If a 300 pound lineman can bench press 300 pounds, he is nothing but a candy ass in my book. I remember when we were always reading about how strong our players were. Remember Darwin Walker??? Remember Al Wilson?? Remember Jamal Lewis?? I suspect we don't hear much about how specifically strong they are because it is really nothing to brag about.

If I remember correctly, after the Kentucky loss, Dooley said, "that 1972 Grad on VN is a gigantic bag of yeast infected vaginal douche."

When Dooley did it, VolNation accused him of throwing the players under the bus.

Nobody complains or says he's throwing them under the bus when Saban yells at his players during practice.

I've hurd nothing from CBJ during his press conferences that even compares to Dooley throwing players under the bus. He will say they made mistakes when asked direct questions about a player from the press, but also makes a point of saying very positive things about said players. Also, he puts a lot of it on himself and the other coaches. It's not even close to what Dooley used to do.

He didn't do it until the press conference after the game when all the players weren't listening.

Butch has it blasting all around campus, but has his team's back when it counts.

A little different.

A LOT different. Dooley said stupid s__ like "I told you these guys are not very good". My blood boiled when I heard that. Getting in the players face during a practice is much, much different than publicly humiliating them to the media, not to mention basically putting all the blame on them.

Good grief! I can promise you that NO TEAM, NONE, ZERO, has EVER stepped on any field of competition with the attitude that I/We're going to just bag this one and not get hurt so that we can make to the winnable games intact. If that is the philosophy of a coach, that coach will never win anything. You show up to play and win EVERY game! Will it happen? No. But a winner's mentality NEVER allows you to think like this. You must compete every time. :peace2:

EDIT: This is not to say that sometimes teams come out flat and don't compete as well. But, it's not ever by design or strategy. Sometimes you're just flat as a competitor and as a team.

I hope Butch yells at Big Dan (McCullers) that his get off is so slow, he (CBJ) could sit and eat a nice lunch before Big Dan makes crosses the LOS.

I don't know if Shade Tree has been coached to take his time, off the snap...but that's one reason why he ain't dominating in the trenches like we thought. Big Mac could be a top 10 overall pick, with his size, but he's so slow off the snap I'm starting to doubt whether he will get drafted at all.
