Vol Practice report

Dooley did it in the media pressers, BIG difference. CBJ gives the kids the kick in the butt they need in practice, but stands up and defends them against everything and everyone else in the media. It's called leadership.

it's the old "I can yell and pick on you but God help anyone else that does it!"

You must be an only child...

I'm not backing him up, but if you're making the claim, then it is you who has to prove it. Burden of proof.

Thanks, but agreeing with me could get you into trouble. I think that way too much has been made of Dooley calling players out on in the media.

I honestly don't think that Dooley was as hard on individuals publicly as Spurrier is. The bus just sits there idling and waits for Spurrier to throw players under it.

Butch is just cooler than Dooley, so he can get away with it. If you don't see the difference in Dooley's press conferences, and Butch's, then I'm not sure any amount of direct quotes will enable you to understand.
Actually, I thought that Dooley's press conferences were interesting. He was sarcastic and funny. Not a great coach, but he was entertaining.

Silly statement.

I'll bet you my house he's drafted in the first 4 rounds.
I didn't say he wouldn't. Just said I'm starting to have my doubts. He was one of the top NFL propsects before the start of the season....much like Hunter was. Stock has no doubt dropped a LOT since. Has dominated like we thought he would, in a single game this year. Not good.

He's apparently saying it loud enough to make it to reporters. All coaches call out players. They should be tough enough to take a little criticism.

How many individuals did Dooley call out in front of reporters, who were they, and what did he say exactly?

He did call out Neal to a group of reporters and said that Neal wasn't into practicing hard...I forget his exact words, but it went something like "...Rajion likes to rest a lot..."

Not jumping on the "Bash Dooley" bandwagon, but it's obvious now that calling out players was the LEAST of the problems that got CDD fired....

I don't think you'll ever hear his players say that....:salute:

I hope Butch yells at Big Dan (McCullers) that his get off is so slow, he (CBJ) could sit and eat a nice lunch before Big Dan makes crosses the LOS.

I don't know if Shade Tree has been coached to take his time, off the snap...but that's one reason why he ain't dominating in the trenches like we thought. Big Mac could be a top 10 overall pick, with his size, but he's so slow off the snap I'm starting to doubt whether he will get drafted at all.

I hope you are using hyperbole here, because he has consistently projected as a top 10 pick and that hasn't changed. He has had some good, REALLY good moments this year too, esp against USC and Uga. I was at the game and forgot to set DVR, so I don't know, maybe they double teamed him all night...but one bad game doesn't mean he sucks. Relax.

When Dooley did it, VolNation accused him of throwing the players under the bus.

I don't want to get too Dr. Phil on you, but it's all about emotional investment. CBJ seems to be investing in these guys emotionally. He interacting with them. Supporting them. Loving them. With this, he "earns" the right to take a chunk out of their backsides once in a while. It's the same way I parent my children.

I think with Dooley, it was a one-way street.

I'm I the only one that thinks Marlin Lane is running a little bitter than Neal right now. He just looks a little shiftier and more elusive than Neal between the tackles. Just wondering if there's some reason CBJ isn't getting Lane more reps. Any thoughts?

Hunter was the 34th overall player drafted and I believe the 3rd WR. That's a pretty highly regarded prospect.

I've never seen McCullers predicted as a top 10 overall pick. I have seen him as a top 10 DT pick. I don't believe he's played himself out of that ranking myself and would guess he'll go in the 2nd - 4th rounds barring injury.

The NFL drafts more off measurables than on production with the intent to "coach 'em up". He'll likely get drafted fairly high just based on his sheer size as a sort of project.

The part about a two-back set makes me happy.

Josh Smith moving to second string worries me. If he has started for four straight weeks, obviously the coaches saw something in him they didn't see in others. If Josh Smith was better than the rest, oh my.

I only disagree with you on the "a LITTLE better" part. From the quote there, it looks like Butch thinks that Marlin doesn't work hard enough on peripheral stuff. If he's just saying Marlin's not strong enough, he should re-watch the game footage of Marlin running through tackles and dragging people, while Neal gets stood up often. Heck, he shook off a point blank hit from Clowney.

Josh excels in practice. Runs the right routes, gets open and catches the ball. That's why he's been starting. In games he's having trouble catching the ball. He probably runs the best routes and gets open better than anybody they have. I think the coaches are trying to say, Josh you will catch the ball or your not going to play.

I have thought that Lane was our best back for the last 2 years.
