I was thinking about the possibility of BJ Coleman someday being a starting QB for the Vols and I tried to remember the last time a native Tennessean, or at least someone who played H.S. ball in-state, started for the Vols. I know Charlie Warren started in 1965. Has there been anyone else since then?

Yeah, one or two just before the wonderful A.J. Suggs era...

That was C. Clausen's freshman year, he was hurt and missed the first 4 or so games.

Joey Mathews (Sevierville) started against Southern Miss in 2000
Jerry Colquitt (Oak Ridge) started against UCLA in 1994
Todd Helton (Knoxville) started against Georgia and Florida in 1994
and of course Andy Kelly (Dayton) rewrote the Vols' record books from 1988-1991

I think Randy Sanders (Morristown) started against Boston College in 1987 due to a Jeff Francis injury, and he threw 3 interceptions. Sterling Henton entered the game and almost pulled off a comeback as the Vols lost 20-18.

Tis true. I know he started the Southern Miss game that year, but after that I don't know.
