The season is here, come Saturday. Long overdue the way some of us perceive it. Understandably when you know fall isn’t fall unless it’s football fall. But here it comes like a JR shinkansen express train. Joy! Joy! Life is worth living again!

Anticipation. Hope. Uncertainty. Pride. Excitement. Dread. Faith. Doubt. All these ingredients mixed into the soup pot of the Tennessee Volunteers 2013 football season. A season that may become known as either the brick bisque or Neyland nitroglycerine chowder.

So Saturday marks the opening when the Vols enter Neyland to Peay. Then again the next week to place a rock at the hill top. Thenceforth, grave attention must be given to the truism that it’s football time in Tennessee. Which by default also means, it’s Vol Time. Vols players and fans alike, can’t you hear? The General is calling us.

Not smart enuff to know what all that means, but all I know is reading the news makes me want to crawl in a hole and die, so I turn to news of the Vols to keep me semi-sane. So Fall provides a reprieve from the craziness of the world and a reason to enjoy life for a few minutes each day.

I have officially been introduced to the word "thenceforth."

Well, many folks these days have lost touch with the language, using short cuts and applying usages words weren't intended for. Which is why I like watching old black and white movies. Language use was rather creative and educational then.
