I know many of you've read about VPI and UT beeing offered $20 million each to play at Bristol International Speedway.
I'm not sure what has transpired, but I did hear from a good source this weekend that it's a done deal :dance2: :clapping: possibly by the end of the decade. I can imagine that ticket prices will start at $75. :bad: Of course NASCAR tickets go from $55 up.

What Bruton and Company will do - is have a plexiturf base on the infield of the race track, which is pretty much a stadium itself. The buildings on the infield are all removable which would be great. I think the game would sell out and be the largest crowd in college football history.

I really wouldn't have wanted to see Va. Tech take on the Vols the last four seasons - it would've been ugly and 'Hokie Top' would've been played everywhere.

I recall reading in the Bristol paper a while back that Bruton actually inquired about hosting the Super Bowl. This was back when he was taking bids about building a Dome over BMS. The NFL said that the Tri-Cities area didn't have enough hotel rooms, but would consider it if he had a roof and an adequate field.

A dome over a race track... car running in a garage, only 10 million times worse, anyone?

Outside the stadium, just imagine the vendors.

"Programs, get your programs right here!"

"Hot dogs! Peanuts! Hamburgers! Soft drinks! All right here!"

"Get your gas masks right here!"

Seriously though, it wasn't going to be a complete dome - but something like Texas Stadium. If there was a chance in haities that BMS could've gotten the Super Bowl, it would've probably been retractable then.

I remember John Boy and Billy talking about this as recent as last year.

What good would a dome be on a race track? You can't just close the thing if it starts raining... I wouldn't put anything by NASCAR, however.

The reason this game is not going to happen is VT wants a return game in Blacksburg, UT said that they would agree to a home and home series but not a Bristol Motor Speedway game and a return game in Blacksburg. VT does not want to play in Knoxville.
