That's refreshing. Slightly better than Dooley.

And if Jones' product on the field is "slightly better than Dooley's" we'll be in the crapper for a long, long, long, long time. On the other hand, if Jones can coach, we could parlay that into a top class next year and take those three or four steps forward we need to in order to get back. It all depends on how good Jones is on gameday, in my opinion.

For the record, I think UT ended up with a solid recruiting class.

Congrats on yours as well. Same number of signees as UT, four spots higher in the rankings (Rivals, anyway). And you know each year with Spurrier at the helm that the coaching will be there. I sure as hell hope Jones is an SEC-caliber coach.

i'm tellin ya - cbj's impact will positively solid and noticable.

We'll see this coming year. He did all right for having 30 days this year. I look forward to see what he can do on and off the field next season. Not expecting a whole lot but hoping none the less.

I couldn't agree more. I would say it's time to prune the hedges, but it's more like time to pump the septic tank. We have some chronically negative people who camp out on this forum and have nothing of value to add. It would be nice if we had a means of voting on comments and eliminating people with consistently low scoring comments.

The bad news is that the chronically negative, ill informed, trolls and others, outnumber the reasonable/rational posters at least 4 to 1. If we had to vote on each other's posts, they would be able to eliminate anyone whose viewpoint was remotely positive or at least neutral. You just described "Lord of the Flies." lol

I think Butch will do good. That said, how did Auburn smoke us? They started in worse shape than UT. Facts are hard to explain away. Our program is in critical condition- there are no small problems from now on.

how so? Their class was high in the rankings when the old staff was fired. Unlike the previous UT staff, they were still doing what their job/contract/paycheck required

Guys stop for one second and look. This class besides a select few is just awful. There are kids given scholarships that have no business playing in the SEC. more than 50% of this class will never contribute and if they do then we will be fighting Kentucky for the bottom of the sec.

We are already fighting Kentucky for the bottom....wake the hell up....we want a top 10 class with a serious losing streak going on? What makes you think some kid wants to come here to lose? Many on here could tell you that my kid was in recruiting this past year also.....he wanted no part of Tennessee even though we were born and raised here. My kid hated Dools and crew...if you think that does not leave a lasting impression, you are in fairy land....

Of course we did not get a top recruiting class...what the hell are people like you drinking that would make you think otherwise?

And there you go. Just proved the op's point. Some of you will never be satisfied unless we win every game and all the top recruits. Then if that were to happen you would complain we didn't win by enough.

I believe every one should have a right to their own opinion but, it is time for all you negative people to just shut up and listen to others. I for one am tired of you stupid comments. If you were such an expert put your application in for the job and see if you can do better. I didn't think so.

Just give it a rest.
The "negative" people were all correct about Dooley. What makes you think they're all wrong now? You'd think the people who don't seem to know jack about football are the ones who ought to zip it.

I guess it's the pride factor. Some people just can't admit they were wrong about Kiffin and Dooley.

I would say going winless for a couple of seasons would be more along the line of rock bottom. Things could still be worse than what they are now.

Considering that we have 3-4 gimme wins built in to the schedule every year I'd say the last two seasons are pretty much rock bottom.

You mean until we can be like Alabama? Alabama being UT's biggest traditional rival and the current measuring stick against which football success is measured... Yeah. Those guys. It isn't like we have to beat them to be successful in the same conference or anything. The goal is for the team to just show up and not embarrass themselves. Winning is for the other guys. The hundreds of millions of dollars that have gone into UT football are just for fun. Why even keep score? People should just be satisfied with less. That is all we will ever get with Hart and Cheek running the show. Less.

... and I'm gonna support the Big Orange Coaching Staff- not gonna be a "fair-weather fan". Proud of his work in difficult environment. Hard to believe he got that many prior commitments to switch to the Vols...GBO!!!

hopefully next year jones and his staff starts bringing in some top 4-5 star recruits--if not, ut will be behind ga, fla and alabama for years

or too young... you recall that Coach Fulmer owned Alabama. Also, Bama is doing good now but went thru coaching changes and a lot worse recruiting years than we have had. In Rivals we were #20 this year. In 2002 Alabama was #30 and the following year (2003) Bama was #49. IMO VOLS ARE GONNA HAVE TOP 5 RECRUITING CLASS IN 2014 with this good staff, and legacy players and bigger class allowed than 25. IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE SOUND OF THAT YOU SHOULD GET ON ANOTHER TEAM'S WEBSITE. I love my Vols and hope you do too!!!

Dooley was ham strung from day one,all the nega Vols were hollering for him to be fired, all anybody that was recruiting against Tn had to say,was look, there fans hate him all ready,he won't last and then Hart poured some oil on the fire,by not letting him give out contract extensions over a year,Wilcox and company left then and then Dooley made the Suseri disaster hire(see the Hart comment) and now it is most everybody on coach Butch Jones, who hasn't even had a practice yet,let alone a game played, the hole has been dug deep by fans wanting a change right now and poor decisions by the athletic department,i see a pattern here, get behind the Vols and support them

so yes the nega Vols were right

So it was the negative fans fault that Dooley failed? Not because of the fact that he was completely incompetent?

Dooley was supported until the UK loss despite the evidence against him being the right hire.
