Brargh. I just sent a long-winded PM to bradmanvol... I guess I'll copy that and paste it here. Any questions can be sent via PM.(kev20 @ Aug 9 said:Cool! So how do you make 'em?
So here's the short of how I make an animated avie.
1) Get your clip. Decent quality makes for a good gif.
2) Get your gif into an AVI raw video format. Often the video will already be some sort of compressed AVI, but WMV has become a lot more prevalent. To convert from WMV to AVI you can use Windows Movie Maker to open the video, then save it as "DV-AVI" which will take care of getting it as an AVI.
3) Cut your clip to length, and crop it to size. I use a program called VirtualDub for this. It is a free, open-source program. The "Cut" and "Delete" tools are pretty self explanatory, just cut away the excess until you have a workable clip. Keep it short, or your GIF will be huge. For cropping to size... the board allows 128x128 square, but videos are usually 4:3 rectangles... you need to use the Filter tool and select "Null Transform"... then you can crop the video into a square. Now just save the newly cut AVI.
4) Convert the video into a GIF. There are a bunch of programs out there that can do this, but most you have to pay for. I have a program called "123 AVI to GIF converter" that I use. I just open the video, resize the GIF down to 128x128 (The aspect is correct because you cropped it to be square), and tell it to convert it to a GIF. :biggrin2:
A free alternative for step 4 would involve getting VirtualDub to output a sequence of frames as JPEGs, then layer them using an open-source (free) Photoshop-like tool called "The GIMP", then that can be saved as an animated GIF. I've never tried this though, and it seems to be a long way around.
Hope this answers your question, good luck. PM me if you need any help, and I'll try my best.

 Well, no PMs yet, so they either decided they weren't interested, or the instructions were easy. I tend to think it was the former.(Jasongivm6 @ Aug 10 said:This is why I got you to do mine.
I'm one of the "lucky" ones who got in on it first.
Kinda feels like I bought stock in a tech company in 1979.
