Good schedule. No Easter home games (I can't stand that!) Lot's of early home games. Sucks that we have to go to Mississippi twice but at least we finally worked out a 2-game home-and-home with Memphis as a result.
It's good the opening SEC weekend will be on road south of here. Better chance of weather. UGA also has a habit of slow conference starts.
No LSU series.
The Houston tourney teams are (as a reminder)
Rice
Houston
Texas
Texas Tech
Arkansas
As a guess, we will likely play Rice, Houston and either Texas or Texas Tech. No chance we play Arkansas. Rice will be loaded in 2012. Raleigh's signature win was the single Texas game in Houston in season 1. Fool's Gold indeed.
I'm not really thrilled with any of the out-of-conference opponents coming to Knoxville. But that is really a 2-year-process and since Raleigh was thrashing last year trying to get sure wins, such a set up would be impossible in year 1 of Vol Baseball 2.0.
Another odd thing, We get most of our division games out of the way early. We will have played 4 of our division rivals by mid April. Since I expect us to be better at end than beginning with better coaching I'm not sure I like that. On the other hand, with thin pitching, maybe it will be better to be front loaded.
South Carolina and Florida back-to-back will be brutal. But we do well at Florida though for whatever reason.
Except for Vanderbilt, the back half of our schedule is far easier, with Miss State,. Auburn, Vanderbilt, Mississippi and Arkansas. The 3 road series (MSU, Auburn and Miss) are against the 3 worst teams in West) The 2 home series (VU and Arkansas) are against the 2 better teams. Works out great in last 5-weeks.
The first 2 weeks are against 2-teams that were in cellar with us last year in east.(GA and UK)
So fast start. Take our lumps in the middle and hopefully close out strong.
REALLY looking forward to the fall game against Western Carolina on October 14th. We should have a pre or post game get together.
