If Bruce Pearl can get this team to the NIT then he should be given a pay raise and contract extension. I'm afraid Vol fans are expecting too much out of him for this year. Next year though the NCAA tourny is very possible.

Tennessee is winning 77 to 70 right now. From what I've heard so far, this team is about the same except they aren't giving up in the last minutes like they did under Buzz.

I heard they were down to 6 scholarship players after suspensions and injuries for tonights game. I only heard this from one source so I don't know if its true or not.

Eh... as long as they play respectable, I won't mind. I'll give Pearl some time and expect bigger things in a year or two.

They're saying if you give Pearl some time we'll have ourselves a heckuva basketball program

I thought we had 9 scholarship players.

Howell is not hurt. I don't know why he didn't play tonight. Pearl did mention that he needed to find a way to get Jordan in the game.

Back on topic, an NIT birth would be a HUGE success for this year.

As long as we don't fumble on the goal line. Wait a minute, I'm in the wrong season. Beat the Irish!!!

Well... SEC basketball should still be challening, I think too tough for UT to make the NCAA tourney but easy enough to make the NIT.

Florida, Miss St, Alabama and Kentucky should all be solid. Any one of those teams has a shot at the conference title. Georgia sucks, the rest of the teams are decent at best.

I'm thankful college basketball has no "Who's the strongest conference?" arguments.

i think that if randy sanders was the coach of the basketball team then they might start out 3-4 and about to play notre dame lol

I still think it's gonna be ACC, no contest... Georgia Tech, North Carolina, NC State, Duke, Wake Forest, who can compare? No ACC team is weak and there are more strong ones than anywhere else in the country.

I've always thought that the BIG EAST was the best Bball conference. Maybe there are years where the ACC is slightly better, but consisently, the BIG EAST is top dog to me.

While the ACC has won 3 of the last 5 National Championships the Big East will be very tough this yr. Cincy, Marquette, and UL will be good additions..then you have Nova, and Uconn...thats 2 top 4 teams with the U of L also in the top 10. WV and the Orangemen are also ranked in the top 16. Very tough...you have to remember the ACC lost alot in the first rd of the NBA draft..heck GT lost 4 starters and are in rebuilding mode like UNC right now.

Marquette's a good addition on paper. that's it. they really aren't much to brag about b/c their coach is a much better recruiter than coach. yes they did reach the Final 4 like 3 years ago but that was b/c of a guy named Dwayne Wade. they've gotten worse each of the last 2 years including losing a first round game to Western Michigan in Milwaukee and they didn't lose by a close margin. that game happend after they lost convincingly (sp?) to TCU in round 1 of C-USA tourney. while they have a good recruiting class for '05, Tom Crean has also done a crappy job of retaining his players. 6 have transferred in the past 2 years included the ENTIRE '03 class. yeah they had injury woes last year but their only real good player is now w/ the Orlando Magic and it's going to be a brutal transistion. they can't compete w/ BC, Louisville, UCONN, Syracuse, Villanova, etc. the best they'll do is compete w/ the 2nd tier of the Big East (ND, Cincy, etc.)

Georgia Tech, UNC, and Wake all suffered too many personnel losses to be contenders this year. NC State without Julius Hodge is also an iffy proposition. This year the Big East probably has 5-6 teams that are better than any ACC team, excluding SUNY-Durham.
